Watching this back now absolutely boggles my mind, haha. So this process is veery similar to how I used to did my digital paintings, going from sketch directly to color and rendering. I specifically stopped doing that because it made me absolutely miserable to exist in that "ugly stage" of the painting haha, the part where everything is still just weird blobs and scraggly lines.

I'm not a painter by heart, sadly. No amount of art schools could teach me how to be spontaneous when drawing, and honestly I feel like that's one of my biggest flaws, both in life and in art. The second I feel out of control, being forced to just watch things unfold and enjoy the process, stuff becomes massively torturous to me lmao

Unfortunately I have more in common with good sir Kostrov than I'd like, but I'm working on it HAHA

But anyway, illustration is where I thrive, which depends on linework more than it depends on this spontaneous rendering. I LOVE painting though T.T So I'm currently in the process of trying to upgrade my usual painting pipeline that already is more like an illustrating process with a few more steps. I have another work where I'll demonstrate that much better, but in order to make this process enjoyable AND effective, I have to almost work backwards, which means - polish everything - and then make it purposefully painterly

Ideally you'd want the "painterly" effect to be just a byproduct of, you know, painting, but alas :,D I'll leave that for people with differently wired brains than mine haha

It's basically as if I'm first sculpting a marble statue to a perfect detail - and then chopping pieces of it to get a more "rough" appearance haha. It's kinda hard to explain but drawing as an illustrator and drawing as a painter are just two very different approaches to art, and in order for me, as an illustrator, to achieve this painterly effect, I kinda have to work backwards if I want to still enjoy the process haha. In this speedpaint, I just paint like painters paint, so you can't see what I mean here, but i'll be posting a lot of new art in the future where I worked in a way I'm describing here, so it may become more clear then! See I'm totally fascinated by your approach haha, lots of artists I know can do that and it's so wonderful to me 😍 its a totally different type of a brain and i kinda love that about art, everyone has their own approach!

"polished" before it is "raw?" Huh? 👀 What's that? Hhmmm, sounds like being able to look or craft the marble statue by starting with the details first & then the solid base. Wooooow - I hope you can learn how to tackle that. I am more of a "spontaneous" person. I let the colors / figures guide me in the moment to communicate my emotions through pictures, words, or drawings. Our brained are aiered differently 🤣 It will be hard time to get what you mean, but I hope I will be able to see your point one day

AHH i'm so happy someone else relates to this 😭🫶 right?? Its so difficult to get through that stage where everything looks like a mess, it totally makes me art-blind for a moment until I somehow swim out haha, i definitely like to avoid that phase whenever I can ❤️‍🩹 aahhh but you're so sweet!! Thank you so much, I'm soso glad it ended up looking good!! ❤️ OH YEE so! I have thought about discord, and I'm still considering it, but I currently have no idea how I would organize the whole thing. I have so little time left in my day already that I'm not sure if I'd be able to stay on top of things, like making sure no one is getting bullied, that there's no homophobia/transphobia happening, that no one under 16 gets in, etc. Basically I'd love to but that's definitely not something I can keep under control alone, and I'd rather not have one than have someone have a bad experience because I'm just too busy to keep an eye on them 💔 but maybe in the future! If I figure out the logistics behind it, i'd absolutely love to have a place for a community there 🥹❤️

Oh man I soooooo get what you mean by the not a painter aspect, and going through the trouble of the messy stage of art there. It’s hard to wrap the brain around it and visualize while you are mud deep in that process, but mannnn, you went though it and it came out incredible. Your illustrations are so amazing and filled with beautiful energy, shape, colour, and dynamic compositions too! I seriously love it! The struggle is totally real though, but I applaud you for working through it and learning as you go! Oh! In the DMs, my question was cut off, but it’s relatable here! Did you ever think of having a discord just for your amazing story and for your followers there too? Patreon can be advertised there also!
