I think everyone who reads my post descriptions on other socials knows Rick and FJ had a rough journey by now, and they certainly hadn't always been on friendly terms, but they somehow always found an oddly loving way to make each other feel safe. Rick's existence as an ace man who really enjoyed the idea of a tight, emotional bond with another is a whole separate topic on its own, but one thing that was persistently a part of his general psychology and never changed throughout his entire life is just how gentle he was, despite his rough attitude toward basically anyone who wasn't a friend or a family.

The key thing is that HE was gentle with THEM. And sure, he allowed them to be loving back, but he had some trouble opening up and being honest about his troubles, and that was sadly no different with people he deeply loved, like FJ. One of the first major fights they had in the Kostrov Traces was about this very issue; about Rick's self destructive behavior he couldn't explain without revealing a past he was so ensured (and rightfully so) could put a target on his loved one's back.

But rare lies last forever, and his certainly had an expiration date. He was deeply emotional and deeply loving, two things one simply couldn't be if they wanted to live the type of a life he lived, and it cost him a lot. Thus, here I offer you a sweet moment for once, to illustrate really that Rick was a huge lap cat first, and a weird, vengeful vigilante second haha ♥
