I feel like the Former might end up being the "good guy" here. During the boss fight with Marshall, the Former sent you the reinforcements, not the Board. At 1:25:10, the Former says "Assistance, Sent, Champion, Endure". Dr. Ash's last log made me very suspicious of the Board. I am convinced that they are who he references when he speaks of the 'parasite' that we have fallen victim to and the 'strands between Northmoor, the pillar, and the gun'.
