2025-01-15 00:53:32 +0000 UTCI saw Aeon Flux for the first time with no sound because I was on an airplane and didn't have headphones. I was in middle school and I think it fundamentally changed my brain chemistry, it was so weird. When I got back home I spent weeks trying to find out what movie it was (the internet was not as helpful as it is now, so I was checking all the DVD rental spots near me). I have watched it probably five or six times since then (I'm 30 now) and it is still so goddamn weird. Though there was another movie, Ultraviolet, that I used to get it mixed up with. They are so weirdly similar and strange in the same ways.

I think Ghost Stories is an especially interesting one to watch a reaction to, because it's you watching an anime, but also not really? An abridged series but... official? It's both The Product and a transformative(?) work. So we get to hear you joke/critique/contemplate it as a not very good anime AND a pretty good parody. If nothing else, that makes this feel extra interesting! I do also genuinely think the outdated nature of the humor makes it oddly compelling to discuss as well, whether or not the jokes actually land or come off as funny despite their offensiveness, lol. It's weirdly... nice? reassuring? to get a reminder of stuff like that, because I think it helps keep things in perspective regarding just how different things are now. The show is really interesting as a piece of media that acts as a sort of time capsule. So yeah, I've def been enjoying these! I think your commentary has been entertaining and funny, and it's been intriguing actually "watching" along with you, seeing where the show actually goes vs just seeing clips out of context.

I would be 100% cool with you switching to a different anime – watch something that you genuinely enjoy and are excited for instead of something that ends up feeling like homework every month I'd love for you to react to BSD Wan, but that seems like something that would end up on the main channel. So maybe Ouran, Spy x Family, Trigun Stampede, Moriarty the Patriot, Fruits Basket, there are plenty of great options. Maybe time for another poll?
