Full Reaction to John Wick: Chapter 2

Good day, dear patrons!

Welcome to the second movie from the saga. Just one more and we're updated and waiting for the next to come in 2022 (thank you for clarifying the fourth did not appear yet). After watching this movie you'd expect the third one to be the last, but now that I know it isn't I can't help but wonder what happens in the third movie so it can generate a fourth.

I'm sure it will surprise me. But until then I hope you enjoy the time along with me watching this movie! And as always, and most importantly, stay safe! 💖

The Matrix Neo and Morpheus reunited! John Wick and Bowery King.

The fight choreography is amazing throughout (incase you didn’t know, the director was Keanu’s stuntman in the Matrix, so knows how to do fights) and Keanu’s dedication to train to be so good in this is super impressive. As much as I love that, it’s also just a very beautifully shot/lit movie! I normally don’t think much beyond enjoying good color in a movie, but something really cool about was pointed out to me- the lighting colors in the Wick movies match up with his control/whether he is in the advantage or not, and I think also whether he’s being drawn back into the old life or at least getting some rest from it. It seems to be done a bit more clearly in the first movie but definitely still there in the second (and haven’t seen the 3rd one yet myself to know if they still do it). The color of certain words in the translation text stands out the most, but when scenes or characters are really obviously lit with a color cast they’re pretty consistent (though I’ve seen a few takes on what they exactly they mean). Overall green/blue is used when he’s in control of the situation, I haven’t really picked up a difference between the two but I assume there’s some reason since all the color use is so deliberate. Red for his enemies/when when he’s not in control of the situation. And the colors blend from one to the other (through purples) in some scenes when the balance is changing. The first movie’s bathhouse scene is my favorite example- blues when he’s methodically moving forward and in control, and red as he’s losing personal control (brutally killing the guy in the bathroom that was part of the house attack) or fighting in some of the crowded/chaotic/uncontrolled parts. It swaps or blends back and forth a few times as the balance of who has the edge shifts. Also, people helping him away from the life/“good” are generally associated with gold (wife’s gold bracelet, the puppy’s gold collar, his friend Marcus’s clothes/lighting).
