I believe Nickelodeon requested more 'stand alone' episodes, because they needed non-episodic stuff for reruns. So we got this.
I don't like it lol.
EDIT: I know I'm in the minority here, but I was actually totally down for Aang's story about the twins being true. Yeah, it's contrived...I don't really care haha. I'm a sucker for Aang's past being relevant and useful to the present, that's why I'm a fan of the King Bumi episode even though that one isn't particularly great, either. It's a nice emotional moment, and I like having those moments even if they're illogical. Hell, that's why Disney movies work so well!

I can see your point about the episode's place within the season not being ideal. Personally, I don't mind it. It's a kids show, and a damn good one at that. I found the story about the two twin babies playing a ball game hilarious and super cute. So I'm fine with this.

And the voice of the Gan Jin leader is Rene Auberjonois -- better known as Odo from Star Trek: Deep Space 9. That was the voice that jumped out at me when I first watched the episode.

I don't mind this episode but it's probably one of the more shallow and badly thought out episodes when it comes to the 'moral of the story'.
The next episode tho.
THE NEXT EPISODE!!!
I can't wait.

Also, did some quick research because you piqued my interest: the voice actor for the Canyon Guide is Leonard Stone, he's been in a lot, but *I* know him best as Mr. Beauregard from the OG Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. ("You're turning violet, Violet!")
Also, also: unrelated, but I love that you stan Momo. He's the best. The end.

I agree with the general consensus that this episode isn't *bad*, it's just one of the only episodes in the series that really feels like "filler". It's not badly written or anything. I mean, having Aang lie to end the feud does feel out of character a tiny bit, but he's still a kid, so it's not THAT big of a stretch. I also like your critique that Sokka and Katara's behavior kind of goes against what they learned in the Jet episode. It's a fair point, and you're right that it might have hit a bit differently if this episode had happened earlier in the season.
Buuuut, now that that's over, it's only greener pastures from here for you. Literally, this is what's considered the worst episode of the entire show. So, no spoilers, but it only goes up from here! 😁

This is the episode I rewatch the least, and only did so when it aired on nick. It just feels so off, like it's not really the show, but it's not bad, just bad for the show's standards.

Curious what your thoughts will be on this. Widely considered to be the worst episode in the entire show.
