2019-08-19 01:12:53 +0000 UTCDon't be too ashamed...Sure, if you collect a few clips of Forrest and Riley, completely decontextualise them, add a black and white effect and some sappy music, it looks like Forrest could be one of those hilarious homos. But, if you look at Forrest's character within the context of the season arc, which is about magic vs technology, Buffy's female power vs the male-dominated military space, it's pretty clear that Forrest's character was meant to represent the archetypal misogynistic military man who is threatened by strong women "infiltrating" a masculine space. He was also there in order to create an effective contrast with Riley, who by comparison is meant to appear sensitive, thoughtful, and ill-fitted for the military life.
