I watched Sinners on Caitlin's recommendation. It was so good!
I agree with you on Opus. I started it because it got recommended after I watched Death of a Unicorn. I was interrupted about halfway through and I don't think I ever went back to finish it.
I definitely will watch Weapons when I get a chance

You should check out some Italian giallo, I'd suggest Dario Argento's Deep Red (1975) or Mario Bava's Blood and Black Lace (1964) as good introductions to the genre.
If you want another wild documentary, Tickled (2016) shows off some investigative journalism going down a crazy rabbit hole.

Glad you enjoyed Slither! And the sight of Nathan Fillion playing a good guy (albeit bumbling) wasn't too jarring after watching his wreak havoc on Buffy. I imagine this was quite a departure from James Gunn's earlier work in the Scooby Doo movies but they have that same anarchic strangeness to them that I enjoy.

Looking forward to a livestream movie review next month;
The movie I watched in August, I would most recommend, would be ‘Wild at Heart’ (1990) David Lynch directing with Nic Cage as the lead actor, it’s as wild as you would expect.
I also watched and would recommend ‘Shutter Island’ (2010) a neo noir directed by Martin Scorsese; and ‘Shape of Water’ (2017) the Guillermo del Toro’s fantasy romance film.

I'm really glad you liked 'Mulholland Drive'. I wouldn't say it's my favorite Lynch film, but it's definitely a quintessential one.
I'm really not surprised you didn't like the 6 minute fight in 'They Live'. Personally, I love when a film goes out of its way to convey a feeling, even if it has to drag out scenes for an absurdly long time, so I liked the long fight as a representation of how hard it can be to change someone's perspective.
I really wanted to love 'Weapons', but the format really ruined it for me. It made the mystery unravel in a very uninteresting way imo. I'll leave it at that for the sake of spoilers though.
My favorite films I watched recently were 'Watership Down' (1978) and 'The Beyond' (1981). I recommend both, but neither are easy watches.
Edit: I forgot to address your question about what influenced Buffy. I believe 'Night of the Comet' was a big inspiration for it. The supernatural elements are taken from a variety of mythologies and being a postmodern show, many pop culture films/shows of the time were an influence as well of course.
