Apparently, this piece has had quite a repercussion in Japan.
Not only does it have three spin-offs, but it also has an anthology book with stories drawn by other renowned artists in the adult comics community and friends of the author. To my surprise, it has a live-action remake and even a remake by another author, which, while more childlike, develops the story and characters.
Apparently, it's a pretty relevant story.
