patreon

Should I post all my work on Patreon as well?

RESULT:
It's pretty clear what the overall preference is already, so from now on I will be posting anything here I also post on Tumblr/Twitter. Doodles will be one big image, and multi image sets will come with either attache files or imgur links.

Something said to a relatively inactive-on-patreon friend of mine recently got me thinking. Currently I post anything I'm early-accessing here in its finished form but if I'm posting something immediately on tumblr/twitter I tend to not make a post for it on patreon.

However, I know a lot of people find keeping track of artists on social media sites to be a pain in the ass with how the dashboard works, so what I wanted to ask about is similarly to the WIP question of a few months ago:
Would people want me to use this page as a general art uploading spot as well? All posts would be either Public (sfw) or All Patrons (nsfw).

On the subject of file bloat... there is a marvelous utility out there called jpeg-recompress (see https://betanews.com/2016/10/27/jpeg-recompress-cuts-image-file-sizes-by-50-80/ ) although it is something of a power tool -- it really helps to have command line and source code chops to build and use it. I find that even at the strictest quality setting it does an excellent job shrinking PNG's while adding very few artifacts (and those that are added are quite difficult to spot except up close). I whipped up my own wrapper for it and use it to keep the size of my Patreon pr0n folder under control :3

way back when i first made this patreon page there was a temporary effort to maintain a dropbox folder for art, but it ended up falling apart because i just straight up do not save every single piece i make separately, so a lot of non polished work only exists in work files or big canvases or doodle responses to people on social media. im the kind of person who really sorts my images so i can refer to them later, so i detest file bloat and even regularly delete old saved images if i don't like them anymore in my various folders.

I don't know if it's been talked about or mentioned in the past, so here goes nothing: I like to think of what's more or less of a hassle for either of us - on one side it's less of a hassle depending on the website's layout for viewing images, on the other it's about how much more work you should have to be doing past all the artwork. I honestly don't like seeing uploads on Patreon, because of just that tiny extra bump of having to log in in order to see or access any of this stuff, and because of how comparably clunkier Patreon is to other options. With that said, I'm thinking of both Imgur and Dropbox, with Imgur as almost optimal for easy viewing, but dropbox a simple more semi-discrete way of updating a single folder with new stuff without any worry for the odd Imgur moderators that rarely hands out consistently justified bans for any reason. Tumblr for me is another hassle of viewing images just because of how you're dependant on the uploader being consistent with tagging each upload made into a single tumblr post, and no matter who the artist is, there's that extra little bump that still allows for simple mistakes, and for tumblr you also need accounts and login to access anything marked NSFW whether it actually is nsfw or not. Dropbox you just pull stuff into a folder and you're done, once you're set up, and Imgur kinda works that same way. I'm just thinking and talking in terms of where to go when you want to see only the artwork, and not a mountain of a lot of other stuff. For Patreon patrons I feel like that ought to be big idea, but with me being this simple-minded outsider I don't have to care about being already established on sites like Tumblr in order to spread my work or whatever. So, I don't know. Everybody else can vote simply for stuff being uploaded on Patreon or not, I just wanted to say (albeit a bit lengthy) that on the subject of where to upload images and easy-viewing, I don't like Tumblr or Patreon for either of those things.

Please, do post your art here. For me personally, Twitter is too big a distraction (and often a source of aggravation) to follow. Tumblr is better, but even that is better taken in small doses, and sometimes I end up missing stuff. However, Patreon is for the artists I love enough to want to financially support, so obviously I'd want to make sure and see all their art. Thank you :)
