So Im not sure if yall will see this, but as someone that likes to understand who people are and could be helpful for the rest of the show or just some fun knowlege, the man that is wearing the camo bandana who they refer to as Doc is actually a US Navy Corpsman and not actually a Marine though he is allowed to call himself one just becuase of his job, Corpsman is the only part of the Navy, Marines wont make fun off as they are the medical assets of the Marine Corp, Corpsman can serve anywhere but chose to go what is call Green Side (Marines) and this Doc went even deeper and became a Recon Marine, Docs are also the only ones that can really do what they did in this episode and just stare down a Battalion Commander, the Doc is full name and Rank is Naval Hospitalman 2nd Class Timothy Bryan which is an E-5 in the Navy which is equal to Sgt. Colbert "Brad" in the Marines, also not sure if anyone has mentioned but the actor that plays Rudy in the show is the actually Rudy, the guy that put rocks and gas mask on then ran the camp at the start of the show", which he was brought on as a millitary advisor but after being around him the director and show runners said they could never find someone like him and casted him to play himself

The Marines senior officers situation is demonstrated much better in the book - most of the officers we see in the series were not originally Recon Marines, such as "Encino Man" for example. This is also partly why some of the enlisted men have very little respect for them. We have to remember that the pre-9/11 military was not very well put together and by the time 2003 rolls out, many of the wartime outfits are lacking good officers. This is partly why we see such poor leadership.
