Pretty much all the characters are real people, the series is based on a book, and many of the lines are directly from the book. Some of the Marines actually appear in the series, and I don't want to spoil anything, but one of the Marines actually plays himself.

Glad to be here watching along with you guys :) Edit: That look Sam flashed at TBR when Brad was talking about cost of the marriage, I'm dead 😂 Also, the general Mattis mentioned here and there is a real person. He later became a US Secretary of Defense.
