The Princess Bride (1987) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

I've never been a fan of this one, but it is great to see Andre the Giant having a good time in the film. The story goes that the book's author, William Goldman, was a huge Andre fan and wrote that part for Andre (according to Cary Elwes in the Andre the Giant HBO documentary). Everyone that they interviewed who were involved in The Princess Bride (Elwes, Billy Crystal, Robin Wright, Rob Reiner) had nothing but good things to say about the big guy.

My husband and I randomly say "anybody want a PEANUT?" in any situation. It always works.

Chernobyl is absolutely heartbreaking. For me it's almost up there with Schindler's List for how emotional it is .

Me when my family/friends are departing my company: "Have fun storming the castle!"

The film is based upon a novel, but the book has a completely different frame story. It's Fred Savage's character as a grown-up giving a copy of The Princess Bride to his son only for the kid to hate it. Puzzled, the dad goes back and reads the book only to discover that his grandfather had skipped a ton of boring bits and also changed the ending, which in the original novel implied that Inigo and Westley were dying and Humperdinck would eventually recapture Buttercup.

There must be a line from this movie for everything in life. Me standing impatiently in line: “Man and wife! Say man and wife!” Me hearing someone complaining about US being the world’s policeman: “It’s not our fault we are the biggest and strongest, and we don’t even exercise!” Me hearing someone consistently using the wrong word: “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.” 😂😂😂

I see you guys went for something lighter after Clockwork 🤣

I loved this so much! This movie is perfect in such a unique way, no other movie like it really. It's like if Romeo and Juliet was a romantic comedy instead of a romantic tragedy, AND directed by Rob Reiner, Carl Reiner's son. I even caught a joke this watch that I'd never noticed before. When I was a kid I laughed at the Spanish jokes, I'm of some Spanish ancestry but those jokes always made me laugh ("I could give you my word as a Spaniard." "No good, I've known too many Spaniards" 😆), but this time I caught that when Iñigo is drunk and someone yells at him "Ho there!", and he responds something like "I don't budge, keep your ho there." In Spanish that 'ho there' would be spelled Joder, and if you know you know, suffice to say it's a dirty word 😂 I don't know if that was accidental or not but I think it's also funny that only three real places were spoken or implied, Australia, Spain, and Sicily, and then two totally made up countries. Also of note, a lot of Game of Thrones fans have pointed out that Oberyn Martell was probably based in a way on the character Iñigo Montoya, especially a certain scene involving the theme of revenge and a phrase used in repetition for dramatic effect 💔😭

Great reaction to a great movie. I was so excited to see your reaction to "Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya..." and it was so worth it. That revenge scene gets me every time.

Jen Barnes

I love it so much I didn’t mind to watch the whole reaction with the movie for the umph-teenth time. So highly quotable and entertaining. The “I’m not left handed either” is my favorite scene. Not to mention the swordplay holds up even today.

Such a great film! A great film that also costars Humperdink is Fright Night. 80s classic!

Chelsea

Cary Elwes (Westley) wrote a book about their time filming this movie. He has stories from everyone in it, including some funny/sweet moments with Andre. They all loved this movie and working together. It’s a great read!

WhitneyG

Definitely no swimming for a good hour 🌊
