Sci Fi channel put on an event where they showed the film at the city government building, which was used in the film as OCP headquarters. Peter Weller was there, and I brought my ROBOCOP Criterion laserdisc with me in hopes he would sign it. But I ended up being too chickenshit to walk up to him and ask for his signature.

2021-06-10 23:41:40 +0000 UTCGrowing up, we would record movies from television onto VHS (yep, I’m that old 😆) and that’s the only version I’d seen until about ten years ago. Needless to say, I was shocked at the Murphy death scene. Holy moly. That scene was about five seconds long when it aired on ‘80s TV. I love y’all’s reactions. Of all the reaction channels I support, y’all’s would be one of the last two I would give up if my financial situation changed. Seeing these movies that I watched as a child being watched for the first time through the eyes of adults always gives me a fresh perspective on them, and y’all always make points that I’ve never thought of before. Looking forward to Starship Troopers when y’all get to it!

Couple things: Yes, the "TV show" in the movie was created just for the movie. I don't think the authors of the screenplay held network television in very high regard :) And, yeah, Sam was right about Bob's strategy to get the right cop for his project. He mentioned to the big president that he had already identified candidates he was interested in and had taken measures to move the process along. At the beginning of the movie, Murphy says that OCP ordered him transferred to this new district (which just so happens to be a warzone.) So this suggests that his brain is somewhat intact. Finally, Robocop 2 is not as good as the original but it's worth watching eventually (no rush.) The rest of the sequels and the remake are best avoided.
