Help pick the Horror movie we will react to!

Please feel free to suggest other options in the comments for future polls!

NOTE: I have seen 28 Days Later & Cabin in the Woods, so this would only be Sam's first time reaction.

*We received a ton suggestions on the last polls, but we are trying to keep the poll sizes more reasonable. We have noted all suggestions for future polls!

I'm happy to hear that. I remember vividly seeing that in the movies and the shocked vibe of the audience afterwards. And then there was some kind of backlash against it (and even the cast members, if I remember correctly). I never understood that. I haven't seen it in years, but I definitely remember it creeping the f**k out of me and my girlfriend! And the audience that sullenly and silently got the hell out of that theater as fast as they could and scattered into the NYC night! No one made eye contact, no one spoke, it was very weird! LOL

Tic Toc Melody

I'm going to toss out two 80's horror film recommendations, in case you haven't already seen them: The Lost Boys (1987) and Fright Night (1985) - the only two good vampire movies to ever come out of the 80s. Vampires didn't get sexy and popular until the 90s starting with Interview with the Vampire, and then cemented with the Twilight movies. But you can see the start of it in thsese two movies.

Chris

I personally love The Blair Witch Project. It just manages to accomplish so much with so very little. Incredible improvisational skills on display and a rare example of a director pushing things (possibly) too far. The results are stunning.

Nick of Time

That’s kinda why I’m disappointed with the ones that are winning; they’re not really all that great, outside of their pop-culture-secured twist/surprise.

Nick of Time

Haha uh oh! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Yay!! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Haha! They're so close in this poll! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Glad to see atleast one of my votes got more than 10%, 😂 In fact, it’s winning! 👏🏼

Damiana_Dimock

Best. Ending. Ever.

Chris

The mist is going to make you so angry

Richard Flanagan

Lots of great Carpenter films. His second movie, Assault on Precinct 13, is awesome. The remake fell kinda flat because it lacked the things that John Carpenter brings to his movies like the music and the balls to the wall fearlessness that his better movies exhibit.

Mike Tocci

Very true and very unfortunate that it'smore relevant than ever. Without spoiling anything, John Carpenter made a masterpiece of social commentary with They Live. I could talk about the themes of that movie for hours.

Mike Tocci

And as well as NOTLD, you can check out the other classics: Rosemary's Baby, The Omen, The Exorcist, Psycho.

Neal Romanek

Horror comedy.

Sean McDonough

Sam, you're welcome. I've been watching your videos for a few months now and this is my first month as a patron. If you ever do watch 1968's original Night of The Living Dead, check out my comment above as to the copyright situation. It could really be shown in full on YouTube without the trouble of any claims. Maybe this would be a good idea for some kind of full length bonus either soon or around Halloween, when everyone is in the mood for horror films. Just kicking around an idea with that. But it is a highly regarded and influential trilogy within the horror genre. I really think something like that could bring in new viewers and subscribers. Anyway, I've been enjoying your videos. Keep up the great work!

Mike Tocci

Christopher, my recommendation would be all three original movies in order starting with Night of The Living Dead (1968). It should also be noted that this film was never correctly copyrighted by the filmmakers so it's in the public domain. That means a full reaction video showing the entire movie could be posted on YouTube without any problem with copyright claims. I think that would be a cool bonus for current viewers and it could bring in some new horror fans to the channel as NOTLD '68 is an influential classic and a favorite among many genre fans. My personal favorite of the three is Dawn of The Dead (1978). There are 3 versions of Dawn so for beginners I would choose the U.S. theatrical version. 1985's Day of The Dead is great too and I don't think you can go far wrong with any of them. As for the remakes you mentioned, I think the Tom Savini version of Night of The Living Dead (1990) is underseen and underappreciated. Savini, who is a makeup effects wizard who worked on a number of classics including Dawn and Day, did a fantastic job in his directorial debut putting a new spin on a classic as opposed to just doing a tired remake, but the original one is still more essential viewing. The 2004 remake of Dawn of The Dead wasn't bad and it's by far my favorite Zack Snyder movie but it pales in comparison to the original. It's got more action but it's a whole lot less intelligent and interesting than the original, which has that great George Romero social commentary running through it.

Mike Tocci

Oh thank you for the recommendations! I haven't seen any of those. I'll have to check with TBR Schmitt! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I agree! We'll just have to see in what order :) Sounds like they all have amazing and different things to offer. -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Thank you for the recommendations! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Oh interesting! Not sure what you mean, but excited to find out! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

On our list! I thought this was a comedy, is it more horror? -Sam

TBR Schmitt

We definitely want to explore more John Carpenter! We've loved everything so far! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Haha! Can't say no to a young hot Chris Hemsworth! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Thank you, Lee! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

It's a close vote, but it's taking the lead! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Definitely need to watch it, just when is the question :) -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Im just Curious which is your recommendation? I like the 1990 night of the living dead, the 2004 dawn of the dead, and the 1985 Day of the dead. So 2 remakes followed by an original. The 1990 night of the living dead was my first zombie movie experience. The original dawn of the dead is good but i prefer to watch it in black and white just didn't care for the color of the zombie make-up. The dawn remake was ok and did have intensity. And the remake of day of the dead is totally a let down compared to the original. so for me its 90, 04, 85. whats your favorite way to view them

Christopher Plucinski

They Live or The Mist are the best in this poll, by a long shot. Out of these films, only The Fly comes anywhere close. They're all worthy of a watch though. As for other horror movies, check out George Romero's Dead Trilogy. That being Night of The Living Dead, Dawn of The Dead and Day of The Dead. Dawn is my favorite, but watching them in order pays off thematically.

Mike Tocci

The Mist will destroy you. The Cabin in the Woods is fun. Hereditary is insane. The Fly is stomach churning. They Live is social commentary. 28 Days Later is a nice take on the zombie genre, especially for the time. You gotta watch them all!

JayWantsACat

"Fright Night" (1985) "The Return of the Living Dead" (1985) "CreepShow" (1982) "Sleepy Hollow" (1999) John Carpenter's "THE FOG" (1980) Christine (1983)

Mr. Writhms

Hereditary is a masterpiece but it's no kidding around. And 28 Days later was the film that reinvented zombies for the 21st century. For this round I cast my vote for The Fly.

Neal Romanek

The Cabin in the Woods is amazing, but I'm down to watch The Fly and The Live with y'all

Jason Dolan

I am stoked you might watch They Live... total guilty pleasure of mine from college. That and Night of the Comet.

Jen Barnes

They Live is a great film. And the themes explored in it seem more relevant than ever.

Mitchell Smilie

How about Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil?

Sean McDonough

Agreed

Sean McDonough

They Live, because it's John Carpenter's last amazing film.

Peter A. Leggieri

Great choices, but if you want a young hot Chris Hemsworth and a load of laughs with your horror, I gotta go with Cabin in the Woods. Hate the director, but lord have mercy that movie will make you smile and cringe at the same time!

Cheyenne Gordon

They Live or The Fly. Can't go wrong really. Awesome choices here.

Lee Brennan

There are some great films on this list, but I'll choose They Live over all of them. I think it would make for a great reaction.

Future Boy

Yes! Seems to fit the current theme we have going :) -Sam

TBR Schmitt

They Live... you two will enjoy that!

JayDee AhBooWan

Stay in the Stephen King/Frank Darabont train and watch The Mist!
