The Green Mile (1999) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

I just wanted to say I'm a big fan of you and your beautiful wife's reactions. I recently watched your latest reaction on YOUTUBE which was First Blood, and I enjoyed it so much that I convinced myself to become a Patreon. I was hesitant at first because I had two creators I Patreon for already, but I really like you and your wife so much! You two have such a great rapport with each other, not only can I see and feel the genuine love you have for each other, I also love the chemistry you two have in your reactions. I just love the respect you have for each other's opinion and the sincerity in which you express them. I chose the Green Mile as my first full length watch as it is my favorite reaction of yours!. GOD bless you both, and I am looking forward top many hours of enjoyment watching your reactions,

Tony Owens

I love Stephen King's books and many of the movies that have been based on his books and stories. The Green Mile was originally released in six slim, approximately 100 page volumes over the span of (I think) six months. The idea was to harken back to the days when novels were released serially, in parts over time. I bought each one as it came out and loved the story. But the movie... I really couldn't stand it. The novel was heartbreakingly good but I found the movie to be overly sentimental and even maudlin at times. Michael Clarke Duncan did a great portraying John Coffey, but that'sabout the only thing I liked about the movie version. I know it's an unpopular opinion but I've always found Tom Hanks to be an overrated dramatic actor. He can be great in comedies, yet his dramatic roles always strike me as being not so hot. It's not that he stinks or anything, it's more that he just isn't that good. And the translation of the story into film just missed the mark for me. As a comparison, The Shawshank Redemption, another prison set King story turned into film, was done perfectly. And by the same director, Frank Darabont. It seemed like he tried to replicate the whole aesthetic and atmosphere of Shawshank with this one and it seemed forced to me. A ton of people do love it though and if it gets more people going back to the novel and reading, then that's something positive.

Sam Rockwell is super cute (they totally made him gross in the green mile) and he's probably one of the best actors working right now, he usually plays a good guy (or at least a bad guy you sympathize with). You've probably seen him and didn't even recognize him.

Jen Barnes

Yes! It's insane how much worse Percy comes off given everything, but ugh I just hated him so much. Oh that is funny! I think a smart move on Sam Rockwell's part. If this was our first time seeing him, I'm not sure how much more we'd want to watch of him haha -Sam

I don't know when I'll be mentally ready to watch it again! Watching it and then watching the edits both had me bawling. Thank you for the kind words! -Sam

Fantastic, I was going to watch this one again anyways. It's been playing on one of the TNT or TBS type channels the last month at my work while I go to break, so I was in the mood to watch the whole movie. Haven't seen it in years. Keep up the sweet movies. Lot's of people who might end up watching movies on their own for whatever reason, so it's almost like having friends over to watch it with you.

incredible movie incredible reaction just seeing how it effected you both emotionally it was impossible to contain the tears , bless you both , your outro was fantastic loved it :) think im going to go put on a comedy or something now think i need it after that

I 100% agree with Sam's point the Percy is just the worst! Even Billy seems better which is bizarre given his horrific crimes. I also have never hated a character more than Percy. Cool fact about Sam Rockwell (who I totally LOVE). He initially passed on making Galaxy Quest but ultimately decided to make it since it would be coming out the same year as The Green Mile. He wanted a comedic role to balance out the awfulness of Billy. So he ended up being in two of the best movies ever made.

Jen Barnes

"The last, like, 20 minutes of this movie I could barely keep it together. I almost... was... needed to stop." Uhhh, Sam, I think you might wanna remind your husband how react channels work ;)

I've lost count how many times I've seen this movie by this point. Definitely over 10. Each time I sit down to watch it I say that this time I probably won't cry (again). I've been wrong every time. Held it together this time until... Ma'am? Yes, John Coffey? I see it. I see it. ...aaaand crying. Anyhow, that was a great reaction and some great commentary afterwards. What a movie.
