Is there anything Basilone can't do?!
Wow, that's crazy! I think he made the right call in not remaining silent :) Thanks for all your insight as always, Catherine!

We have not seen that! We are always up for a Tom Hanks film and something lighthearted sounds nice :) Thank you for the recommendation, Jimmie!

John Basilone had enlisted in the Army in 1934 and served through 1937. He enlisted in the Marines in 1940, so he was older and more experienced compared to the boys who enlisted after Pearl Harbor in 1941.

This is a break from the intensity of the war. One thing about that outbreak of fighting between the Aussie and Basilone: I don’t know if it actually happened (there was some fighting between Americans and Australians) but if it had, that Aussie would have had his clock cleaned. Basilone was a champion boxer when he was in the Army.
Sid had hepatitis when he arrived in Australia, and was hospitalized for a while. After he recovered, he was assigned sentry duty at the hospital. One day, while standing guard, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt walked up to him and peppered him with questions about how he was being treated, and did he have the food, medicine and materiel needed to fight. She didn’t realize that sentries are not allowed to speak. He was weighing whether he should remain silent as ordered or answer her. He decided that silence would be rude so he answered “Yes, ma’am” to all her questions, while knowing they were lies!

Slightly off topic, but... Seeing the Playtone production company logo at the start of every episode makes me wonder... have you guys seen the Tom Hanks directed film, "That Thing You Do" which is where the name comes from? If not, might be a good film for a future reaction if you're ever looking for something lighter and fun.

There is a (1990) movie about a WW2 bomber crew called "MEMPHIS BELLE", I'm sure you will enjoy. Great film!
