War Movie Poll!

Help pick the War movie we will react to!

Please feel free to suggest other options in the comments for future polls!

NOTE: I have seen We Were Soldiers (2002), so similar to Terminator, this will be Samantha's first time watching.

Comments

Top Gun is super-dumb and lots & lots of fun. I got to see the new 3D version a few years ago and it was like the movie was made for the 3D - over the top, big, loud - I had a blast.

Neal Romanek

What Kevin said.

Neal Romanek

TOP GUN should be added to this next poll methinks

Jason Dolan

Realizing the Deer Hunter and Come and See didn't score very high on this list, I highly recommend you see them both. They're the only true anti war / anti hero worship movies listed other than Platoon, and IMHO, better. Come and See is particularly powerful - it's almost a horror movie - and is a far superior depiction of war on the Eastern Front than Enemy at the gates. If you don't profile either of these movies on your YouTube channel, you should still take time to watch them. And now I'll depart this thread and take my sospbox with me ;)

Smooticus

Can't believe I forgot to suggest The Great Escape (1963) for your War Movie list! (although you may have seen it)

Neal Romanek

The last samurai needs to be added to this poll!!! Better then anything on here now.

you should a like memorial day marathon or just a double feature

Justin Guajardo

How about Memphis Belle?

Sean McDonough

Just remembered another dynamite war movie: Enemy At The Gates (2001) about snipers in the Battle Of Stalingrad, with Jude Law, Rachel Weisz & Ed Harris

Neal Romanek

And there's Dr. Strangelove, a great war comedy - a great comedy, period. Does Stripes count as a war movie?

Neal Romanek

Sure is!

Sean McDonough

Glad to hear it. Really love your show. Also love that you take the time to respond and communicate with us! Thank you!

Sean McDonough

Pleased to see "Glory" in multiple comments, it's a must-see and I would love to see you guys react to it. Keep up the good work!

Andrew Crouch

Hi David! Most movies will make it back on the polls again and then we try to add as many suggested films to them as well, without making for too many options. We’ll usually drop movies off the polls if they get less than 5% of the vote, unless someone comments about it. Thank you for the support here and let us know if you have other movie recommendations :) -Sam

TBR Schmitt

First time voting here. May I ask how does it work with movies that didn't win the poll? Are they gone forever or is there a chance some time later? I see some underdogs in the poll which I'd like to see in reaction.

David Lengyel

+1 for Zero Dark Thirty and the Jarhead

David Lengyel

I second Glory (1989) & Flags of Our Fathers (2006). I would add Jarhead, Dunkirk (2017), Lone Survivor, & Zero Dark Thirty.

no taeyoung

Apocalypse Now & Das Boot are both coming!

TBR Schmitt

Thank you for the recommendation!

TBR Schmitt

Ooh I like the more fun recommendation! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Wow that's crazy!

TBR Schmitt

Thank you for the recommendation! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Glory (1989) is excellent! I also recommend U-571 (2000) , The Big Red One (1980), Flags of our Fathers (2006), and When Trumpets Fade (1998).

Jen Barnes

Voting for Platoon here, definitely. Glory (1989) is a good one too

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

Patton is a good film.

Catherine LW

All of these are AMAZING!!!! It is super hard to choose! Think about Apocolypse Now, Kelly's Heroes, Memphis Belle, Das Boot.

Sean McDonough

Another amazing WW2 action movie: The Train (1963)

Neal Romanek

It is my favorite of the genre. The documentary of the making of the film is a great film in itself.

Mr. Writhms

You two have been watching some serious gut wrenching war films. You need to watch a more relaxed, yet fun war film called 'Kelly's Heros', it stars Clint Eastwood and another all star cast. It's has war in it, but has a side story that is pretty fun. It's a classic that many people like.

Allister Fiend

Apocalypse Now is such a great movie. Like Tania mentioned in the comments about Deer Hunter, this film also has a very haunting vibe to it. All star cast with some great acting!

Allister Fiend

Famously, in one of the first Q&A screenings of the movie, a man stood up in the audience who had been a German soldier in WW2 during the occupation of the USSR and said the movie showed exactly what it was really like.

Neal Romanek

Same here. I saw it for the first time a few months ago. It definitely sticks with you.

ADPTBL

I would put the Deer Hunter first, but I'm so excited to see Come and See climbing up the ladder I've thrown my vote there.

Neal Romanek

Come and See is a masterpiece

Jimmie V

We're so excited to watch it, whenever that may be :) -Sam

TBR Schmitt

My war recommendations are few and far between -- not my favorite genre -- but Paths of Glory from 1957 is incredible.

Tyler Foster

It's off the polls and officially on the schedule! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

What happened to "Apocalypse Now"? 🥺

Mr. Writhms

Watched The Deer Hunter for the first time a few months ago and it was an experience I will never forget! Absolutely haunting. I am in awe of the cast!
