The book ended much more painfully for Will and he mused in hospital about how God doesn’t really “care” just like how thousands die in battle but “Shiloh doesn’t care”. Monsters like Francis need to go away, for their own spiritual relief as well as for avenging victims & for preventing further victims.

This might be an epic....
Some thoughts on the full-length review:
Michael Mann is notorious for making little changes to his films every few years, cutting one scene, putting another back in. I remember seeing the full "Director's Cut" several years back that had EVERYTHING in it, but the print was very washed out and looked rushed.
I have the Blu Ray from MGM, which I think is the only version available new on Blu Ray right now. It's very bare-bones, but it looks great. One reason I'm very glad I have this version is, it has a crucial scene that was, sadly, missing from what you watched. Right before Graham realizes how the Tooth Fairy finds his victims, he mentions to Crawford that this man has to have been badly abused as a child. He then goes on to say that his hellish childhood is no excuse: as an adult, he is a complete psychopath who deserves to die. For me, that is one of the best, most important moments in the whole movie.
I've read Red Dragon recently, and I prefer Manhunter to the book. Red Dragon's ending is far more downbeat, needlessly so in my opinion. It does go more into Dolarhyde's childhood, his motivations, but I think Manhunter gives us everything we need to know. Also, the book has a scene that I found so ludicrous that I started laughing when I read it. It took me out of the story, and it didn't recover.
I saw the movie Red Dragon several years ago, and while it was an okay movie, it didn't hold a candle to this one. A lot of the casting felt off, there were quite a few false notes, and unfortunately it kept the unintentionally funny scene. You might feel differently.
Anyway, I love talking about movies like this, and I hope, if nothing else, you found my rambling entertaining.

I definitely want to watch the series! Even if not for the channel, I'll watch it on my own.

I could do with more Lecter. He just makes such an impact for the minor amount of screen time he's had in both films!

Good to know! We were getting so many recommendations for both on our SOTL reaction. My dad loves Manhunter, even more than SOTL so we went with that one first :) Maybe we'll wait a while before we check out Red Dragon.

The Hannibal series is great. The story is a bit of a reimagining of the Hannibal and Will Graham relationship. Psychology, horror and thriller with a good dose of gore.

The painting I'm the movie is actually real I'm into art . I don't know the artist but the painting is gorgeous. William Blake is the artist.

I like how the last 45 focused mostly on Dollarhyde. And how he started to take an attraction to the woman he worked with. I'm thinking because she had a disability. I could be guessing. But that Tiger scene is probably one the most beautifully shot scenes I've seen in a crime thriller.

The actors name is William Peterson and he was on CSI. Many who have read the book Red Dragon believe it to be superior to Silence of The Lambs.

Just FYI, the movie Red Dragon that you were talking about tells the same story as manhunter, but it was made after silence of the lambs, while Manhunter was made long before. After the success of silence of the lambs, they decided to cash in by remaking this prequel story and as a result, they wrote a bit more lecter into the movie. Red dragon is also the name of the book (by thomas harris) that this story is adapted from. It’s a great book and the ending is different than the ending in this movie which is the weakest part of this great film in my opinion.

Manhunter and Red Dragon are both adaptations of the same novel, titled Red Dragon. The reason Manhunter wasn't called that is because producer Dino De Laurentiis didn't want to put out a movie with "Dragon" in the title.
Red Dragon is by no means a bad movie, it does have Hopkins back as Hannibal, but I think Manhunter is by far the better of the two.
