When the Umayyads began conquering India, they enslaved so many Indians that the cost of Hindu lave dropped to as low as a few dirham, whereas a 'yellow' slave (meaning a blond Bulgarian or whatever) could still fetch hundreds of dirham. Supply/demand. Life is cruel.
