Scott D'Amore talks TNA-WWE Relationship, Why he's been backstage at WWE and AEW shows

The world of independent wrestling is about to experience  Maple Leaf Wrestling Mayhem. The company returns for a two-night event on March 14th and 15th. Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp sat and spoke with Scott D'Amore for nearly 30 minutes, the owner of Maple Leaf Pro, and discussed its impact, the talent lineup, and the vision for the future of Maple Leaf Wrestling.

Reflecting on the first Maple Leaf Wrestling Mayhem, D'Amore expressed his deep appreciation for the positive reception from fans. He said, "I was very touched and pleased with the response to the show," he said. "It is a daunting task to start from scratch, but I was really proud of how the product looked and how we presented it. The two nights of wrestling action were as good as anything out there in the world."

One of the components of Maple Leaf Wrestling Mayhem is its ability to integrate established stars with talent, allowing fans to see both familiar faces and future stars in action.

Scott explained the philosophy behind this approach, "We want to provide a platform, specifically for Canadians but also for talent worldwide, to showcase their skills and get noticed. It’s often difficult for wrestlers outside the U.S. to break through due to immigration hurdles. This event removes that barrier and provides a stage for young talent to shine."

The former Bullet Club member* (yes, see below) tells Sean the major strength of Maple Leaf Wrestling lies in the veterans guiding the younger generation. Wrestlers contribute in and out of the ring, mentoring upcoming stars.

D'Amore emphasized the significance of this mentorship: "Having experienced wrestlers like Bishop Dyer, Billy Gunn, and PCO at the event helps bridge the gap between generations. Fans love being able to say, ‘I saw so-and-so when they were just starting.’ It creates a special connection between the audience and the performers."

D’Amore also mentions the appeal of professional wrestling, likening it to a circus: "Some people love high-flying acrobatics, others love powerhouse brawlers. Our goal is to provide something for everyone and create unforgettable moments."

Sean mentions PCO’s decision to destroy the TNA Digital Championship with a sledgehammer at GCW’s The People vs. GCW event. When asked, D'Amore said: "PCO has always had a unique way of making a statement. It created buzz, and while it’s not my approach, it fits his persona perfectly. We’re excited to have him at Mayhem, bringing his signature chaos to the ring."

He mentioned the ability to bring together talent from multiple promotions, including NOAH, New Japan Pro Wrestling, AEW, and the NWA. D'Amore expressed pride in fostering these relationships: "Wrestling is at its best when different promotions can come together and create magic. This event embodies that spirit, allowing stars from across the industry to share a ring and deliver dream matches."

Scott says Maple Leaf Wrestling continues to grow and expand its reach. The promotion makes waves by bringing high-energy events to passionate crowds.

He mentions Windsor, Ontario, and how the city has a deep history with wrestling and promotions like TNA, Impact, and BCW, consistently attracting enthusiastic audiences.

In May, Maple Leaf Pro will venture to Toronto, specifically the historic Maple Leaf Gardens—now known as the Mattamy Athletic Centre. This venue retains its iconic roof and charm while smaller in capacity than its original 17,500-seat layout.

While Maple Leaf Pro is rooted in Canada, there is potential for cross-promotional opportunities that may extend beyond the country’s borders. However, the primary focus remains on engaging

beyond Maple Leaf Pro’s expansion, and its leadership remains connected to the broader wrestling landscape. A recent visit to WWE’s Performance Center highlighted a dedication to talent development. Wrestling schools often exist in unconventional spaces, but WWE’s PC is a state-of-the-art facility to produce the next generation of superstars.

The facility is a wrestler's dream, from training rings to dedicated high-spot practice areas, full gyms, and medical staff. The visit underscored the importance of fostering talent and ensuring up-and-coming wrestlers access elite training environments.

Scott talked about the working partnership between WWE and TNA. One of the most exciting. This collaboration benefits both companies—WWE has many contracted talent who need ring time, while TNA gains exposure through NXT. More importantly, wrestling fans are the ultimate winners, as these partnerships create fresh and exciting matchups.

Years ago, collaboration between promotions was rare, but visionaries in the industry, including Maple Leaf Pro leadership, have long advocated for companies to work together. Strengthening relationships with TNA, New Japan, AEW, and WWE is a step toward breaking down artificial barriers in the industry. While the long-term impact of the WWE-TNA partnership remains to be seen, the early signs indicate a positive shift for professional wrestling.

Maple Leaf Pro aims to provide that same platform for Canadian talent. Proudly promoting its Canadian identity while welcoming wrestlers from around the world. Scott says Maple Leaf Pro is on track to become a major force in professional wrestling.

Scott mentions Maple Leaf Pro remains dedicated to delivering high-quality wrestling and expanding its reach. The first event featured Josh Alexander, Mike Bailey, Stu Grayson, and Takeshita.

The mix of wrestling styles and matchups. NWA World’s Championship Thomas Latimer will defend his title against Bishop Dyer, formerly Baron Corbin in WWE.

Scott spoke about the Maple Leaf Women’s Canadian Championship. The original Maple Leaf Wrestling never had a women's title.

MLP Mayhem will be available on Triller TV. Pricing is $20 for one night or $30 for both nights one and two. This weekend’s lineup features Billy Gunn, Matt Cardona, PCO, Serena Deeb, Kylie Rae, Gisele Shaw, Mike Bailey, Bishop Dyer (f.k.a. Baron Corbin), and many others.

Scott expressed his gratitude to his colleagues and the fans for their support over the past three decades. Their passion and dedication fuel the success of MLP and the industry.
