Update on WWE ID Deals

WWE ID continues to roll out new names, and it's going to continue.

On November 9, WWE revealed Marcus Mathers and Sam Hardway Holloway as the newest ID talent, after filming a segment with William Regal. However, we're told that Regal isn't the only former WWE talent involved. Fightful Select is told that Timothy Thatcher is involved in what is believed to be some sort of coaching or training capacity.

In addition to the names announced, WWE does have some more familiar names in the fold that they're planning to reveal. From what we understand the ID program will also extend to talent who are on the indies who have been signed to major companies in the past, assuming they're a good fit.

Many of these deals were solidified quite a while ago, and some of the talent signed or agreed to have already working AEW or ROH dates since starting those talks.

For those asking, we're still working on finding additional information on the rules or perimeters of the deals.

Comments

It feels like just another attempt from WWE to control and own wrestlers so no one else can sign them. Like they're trying to own even the indie scene of wrestling so they can further be a monopoly.

Why?

Fightful Select

God this feels scummy.

It’s more like how the NBA treats international talent. They draft them and let them continue to play in Europe until they want to bring them over or someone buys the rights from them.

But with restricted free agency they are normally actual members of the team/organization prior to being a free agent. This seems more like a draft and WWE are the only one drafting.

Kind of confusing, shouldn’t he be a coach at one of the schools they are partnering with? Does this mean it’s just NXT without a set training place? Really interested to see the details of these deals.

ID is like restricted free agency, wwe gets first shot at signing

DiceandCapes

Would love to see Thatcher back in-ring for occasional appearances.....dude is a unique individual.

I like WWE ID I think WWE is trying find guys to fill NXT so they can call up deserving people that are ready for main roster

Brendan Crabtree

So WWE aren't opposed to these guys doing AEW/ROH one shots as long as they don't sign with them. It forces TK to up his game and identify emerging talent before WWE spot them, or sign guys who aren't interested in WWE.

thats interesting

So I need to see a heritage cup match between Charlie Dempsey and Timothy Thatcher.
