The top was done with traditional coloring (like painting, and choosing each color directly). The bottom one was done using the gradient method I employed for a long time. It would look better wit some refinement, but honestly it did end up taking just as long as the top version, so maybe I should just stick to tradtional coloring for now. It does take a while, but I don't get bored doing it, unlike doing the final line-art. That's tedious.
