How to paint moist and disgusting skin

In this video, you will learn how to paint the skin of my Tyranid Tyrant. For the demonstration, we will use a Tyranid Spore Mine. I recommend watching the entire video before you begin.

This is my first video and it will probably contain mistakes, so please feel free to let me know in the comments and/or give me suggestions for improvement.

Thank you all, and I look forward to hearing your feedback,

Max

Hey Man, I don't know at all, I think you might end up with too much gray, but I'm not sure. Try applying a little resin on an off-white background to see the result. I think the resin has a very slight translucent gray tint, but I'm not sure how it would look with a darker gray. For example, I have 14k résin red, and it doesn't look good at all when applied to the minis !

Hey, I see that UV resin colour is dark grey. Would using a lighter shade of resin make any difference? I have Elegoo water washable 2.0 in ceramic grey for my usual 3D printing. Not sure if the water washable would make a difference or not either

Jake

Thanks a lot man, I'll take note for the next tutorials to come! Thanks for your feedback 💪🏽

Maxime Michelin

Excellent tutorial. Everything is explained very well with the right timing. As soon as I saw the images of your creations posted on Reddit and Instagram, I had to subscribe to your channel immediately! The technique you used is truly excellent and even fun, and I can't wait to try it on the Tyranids and nurgle-devoted-minis. Having seen your other tutorials, I wish there were a PDF version of the videos with enlarged images. That way, we could better appreciate the details, like in the images you post on social media. Thank you!

Thank you so much for your support and feedback. I'll take note of all this to improve for the rest of the tutorials 😁 . I film with my phone I don't have a professional camera and it's sometimes misery aha

Maxime Michelin

Overall good tutorial, supplies are mentioned at the start and everything is explained very well. I also couldn't tell if the voice was AI or not. 2 things that would improve the tutorial in my opinion: -I wouldn't recommend using those flashy short zoom-in transitions. No transition effect at all works best for many short clips, changing frequently. After all, this is more educational than entertainment. -I think it would help a lot, if you could zoom in more. Watching this on my phone was almost impossible.

Hey man, it won't do the wet/moist effect of resin, but you'll get the shiny side of it ! 😊

Maxime Michelin

I'm wondering whether gloss varnish instead of UV resin would have a similar enough effect?

Tommy

Hey man, dissolvers with oil paint allow several things, diluting the paint, allowing it to dry faster etc.. This is not the effect produced by this technique. You apply a base color, white in our example. You want to protect this white so that it doesn't dissolve with the iso alcohol, so you apply a layer of superglue to protect this white layer and produce the desired reaction with the iso alcohol. Then you apply your shade blue paint, which will enable us to create a patern of veins. By applying the iso alcohol and gently tapping and pushing with your brush, the alcohol will destructure the blue paint pigments, which will slide onto the super glue. (Without touching the white layer underneath). Use the brush to gently push the pigments together to create the vein pattern effect. The blue pigments will cluster together, creating more pronounced areas than elsewhere. I hope this helps, don't hesitate if you have any more questions ! 😊

Maxime Michelin

Im not fully understanding the Iso Alcohol tech. Are you basically treating it like you would mineral spirits and oil paints, as in to remove the color ?

CJ johnson

The base for the tyranids will be the diorama but if you're interested, I could work on some basic tutorials in the future !

Maxime Michelin

Would love to see a nice basing scheme to go along with these tyranids!

Mason K

Thanks a lot man !

Maxime Michelin

This is great!

Sabel Kowalk

Thank you very much man, appreciated it 🙏🏽 . I don't think epoxy resin will work, unless I'm mistaken it'll be too thick and you'll lose a lot of detail on the miniature.

Maxime Michelin

Appreciate all the work that went in to the tutorial, I think it’s great so far. Would using epoxy resin rather than UV resin make a big difference?

Malcolm Saunders

Thanks a lot Rob! I've never tried it, but I'm afraid White Spirit is too aggressive for paint and glue. Knowing that it's a paint remover, it might be too strong aha

Maxime Michelin

Great tutorial man, thanks a lot. Can’t wait for more! Have you tried using white spirit instead of iso alcohol to work the shade? Curious if it would have the same effect

Rob Slater

Thanks a lot man, I've just tried vallejo's varnish gloss and it doesn't work, it dissolves the varnish.

Maxime Michelin

Very good tutorial! I can't wait to give this a try. What's your thoughts about using a gloss varnish instead of the super glue?
