Jake "The Snake" Roberts Interview Notes: Vince McMahon does the opposite, audiences getting overwhelmed with content, and details on his book

This week's episode of the Wrestling Perspective podcast features a conversation with Jake "The Snake" Roberts. In addition, Lars Frederiksen and Dennis Farrell discuss various topics, such as the art of selling, the current state of wrestling, future storylines in AEW, and the disconnect between generations of wrestlers.

Jake talks about his interest in writing a book, his love for the Oakland Raiders, and the importance of showcasing wrestling correctly. Additionally, Jake talks about his experiences in the wrestling industry, including restarting his career, struggles with addiction, and being inspired by past wrestlers. He also discusses how he plans his performances for different crowds and compares it to eating at various establishments.

Here are additional notes from the conversation.

When asked what he has learned from being around younger wrestlers, Jake joked and said that the art of selling was gone. He would then give an actual response and convey their sense of timing. He said that he and the wrestlers would be unable to do it during his time.

Jake was asked what he gets excited about in wrestling; he said they move 100 miles per minute. He also said he enjoys watching Kenny Omega, Darby Allin, and MJF. He spoke about the heat MJF garners.

He said AEW helped with the trials and tribulations in his life. He said they let him do his thing, which allowed him to enter the ring and work a promo with Cody Rhodes. He then would talk about Cody and WrestleMania. He said he knew Cody would not win against Roman Reigns because Vince would do the opposite; he added, "he [Vince] doesn't want anybody calling his shit."  Jake said he does not believe the loss hurt Cody, but he hopes they eventually give him the title.

He said he believes the wrestling audiences are becoming overwhelmed with content. He said the WWE has a lot of content, and you add AEW into the mix. He said it's not hurting wrestling, but he wants someone to have the balls to bring back old-school wrestling.

He said about managing other wrestlers; the opportunity has yet to be there. However, he said he would love to. He said he thinks Tony Khan is a great man to work for and would do it. Jake was asked if younger wrestlers ask him for advice. He said the most common asks are wrestlers who ask him to watch their pre-match and matches.

Jake said if Lance Archer gets an opportunity, he could "damn sure carry it." [push] However, he added that there is no slot for him to fit in right now.

Jake was asked who are some of the people he wishes he could have worked with in the ring beside Lance. He said MJF, Chris Jericho, and Kenny Omega.

He said his book is finished and will take a few months to publish. But, he said he wouldn't blow the whistle on anybody except himself. He said it is being edited now, and it will be around 600 pages.

This interview will be available on Monday, May 29th, at 9 AM. It will be available for viewing at Fightful.com or this link on Youtube [https://youtu.be/4H8JO-pbXjw]. The interview will also be available on your favorite podcast platforms.

Comments

Can’t wait to read his book, he was my favorite wrestler when I first started watching. I’m just happy he’s doing better and feeling good.
