Johnny Gargano update
Added 2023-04-16 01:15:25 +0000 UTCJohnny Gargano hasn’t appeared on WWE programming since NXT Stand and Deliver, leading many to wonder where he’s been.
Fightful Select has learned that Gargano re-aggravated the shoulder injury that had him sidelined for much of January. After only having a couple of matches his first few weeks back, Gargano ended up wrestling a dozen matches after March 4.
We’re told that the shoulder injury got worse after his Royal Rumble return and by the time of the NXT match with Grayson Waller he was severely hampered and using one arm. The hope from the company is that he can repair the injury with physical therapy as opposed to surgery.
There was speculation that Vince McMahon returning to the fold led to Gargano’s absence, but that isn’t the case. McMahon actually was directly involved with communicating to Gargano in late 2021 that he wanted Gargano to remain in the company.

Reports were coming out that they credited him for getting Theory Lunis & Hartwell over with the NXT audience & Vince reportedly wanted him on the main roster & during Gargano nine months absence WWE were in talks with him during that time period When NXT changed & Vince was involved in creative they literally built war games as his NXT farewell & unlike most talents that don’t re-sign with WWE they actually treated him with respect on the way out acknowledging he was leaving letting him main event NXT with his farewell while also setting up a feud for upon his return to the company. Vince treated a lot of talent badly when they didn’t re-sign but was one of the few Vince was respectful to upon his exit & Johnny ended returning nine months which probably did have more to do with Hunter than Vince
