Select Portions: Nakamura, Brian Cage, Effy, Christian
Added 2023-04-14 16:05:09 +0000 UTC- Fightful can confirm Wrestling Observer’s report that Brian Cage’s contract is a five-year deal. However, we can also confirm that AEW holds a sixth-year option on the deal.
- Dark Side of the Ring announced their upcoming return. We can confirm they were deciding on topics for the show as far back as January.
- Despite unusual online speculation, those we spoke to said that Christian Cage as a part of Edge’s WrestleMania entrance wasn’t a realistic situation. Cage is still under AEW contract.
- Fightful’s Joel Pearl caught up with Effy at GCW’s Worst Behavior event in Toronto, and the two had the opportunity to talk on numerous topics.
Effy talked about his recent tour schedule, which included a trip to Australia [WSW], New York City, and an unannounced trip to Minneapolis [F1rst Wrestling] before the event in Toronto. He mentioned he had one more event before he headed to Los Angeles for WrestleMania Week.
The former GCW Tag Team Champion said he would relax a little before the shows in Los Angeles. He said he took the month off between the middle of January and February and got himself in order. Effy said nobody noticed because he had already worked so many events.
He would tell Joel that people have an idea that his character is a soft and comedy
worker, but he said he thinks people should know that he will do anything. He mentioned his first match after his short hiatus was a No Rope Barbed Wire match at Jimmy Lylod’s event [GCW’s Jimmy Lloyd: All Grown Up].
Effy would tell us about the matches on his tour in Australia that he worked tag team, triple threat, scramble match, and singles intergender matches. Effy talked about how it’s not easy to keep balance on the road, but he keeps things in perspective. He mentioned that he takes care of his health.
When asked about the weirdest place he has ever wrestled, Effy replied that he had a match at a buffet restaurant in Georgia. He mentioned that a woman said a homophobic slur, and instead of responding with something witty, he just spit on her as she ate. Effy also mentioned that he has yet to work with that promotion since. The topic of food on the road then came up in the conversation. Effy said traveling on the road with Allie Katch; they are big proponents of coffee and a carb. He said he only eats one big meal a day on a show day and will eat after a show if they end up somewhere. He mentioned to Fightful that he is a big fan of brunch.
When asked about maintaining his character, Effy said he “was sick, with how over he was being blonde.” He mentioned that it is expensive to stay blonde. In closing, he would promote his upcoming show Effy’s Big Gay Brunch 7 in Liverpool in May.
SPOILERS:
- As rumored, Shinsuke Nakamura is scheduled to start a program with Karrion Kross on Friday’s Smackdown. WWE had a Nakamura tarot card produced for it.
