The WWE Sale RUMORZ MEGAPOST

Hey guys, I know why you're here. Here's the megathread

- The rumors started off of a Bryan Alvarez vague tweet. It's not been clarified by he or Dave Meltzer as of yet.  As of now, we don't even know that the WWE-Saudi Arabia rumors are even what they were referencing.

- Several other vague tweets among media emerged, and Fightful learned rumors of a WWE sale to Saudi Arabia. We have nowhere near confirmed this at all, and plenty doesn't add up as of yet.

- People on the writing team, and in production have not been informed of a sale.

- Zero talent that we've heard from have been told anything about a sale. There hasn't been any briefing of this whole situation.

- No talent we've spoken to have asked for their release, but there was at least one talent that told us they'd be done if it happened.

- There has been an incredible amount of concern among staff and talent regardless with Vince McMahon back in control.

Supremely unlikely. Russian oil is currently sanctioned, and rasslin would be a very dumb thing to stick their thumb in Saudis’ eye over given our entire infrastructure is dependent on how generous they’re feeling with oil prices.

Or they watch to be entertained and enjoy the product. Some people don’t think about things beyond the surface because they have other things in life going on.

There is legitimately no reason this would happen despite peoples feelings toward SA.

Unless they find competition issue no. It’s likelihood that they would not

I wish someone could comment on whether the US government could potentially block a sale to the Saudis.

Cody

Always the chance that their sources did tell them about the sale being done or close to, just to gauge the public reaction

Can't wait for the List and Ya Boy today. I wonder Jimmy had on his list until he saw this mess this morning.

This thing with Saudi could also just be Vince and WWE just trying to raise the price for NBCU and other buyers

Alvarez et al really need to stop with the vague tweeting, it's so bush league.

In this case, it’s called Stamford Syndrome. They’ll defend anything because it’s all they’ve ever had/known.

Geez, when is Alvarez going to learn not to report on the stuff that Jericho and the Elite tell him?

FOX/NBC are unlikely to lowball based on a potential Saudi ownership. Any lowball would be based on the overall TV viewer base declining between deals. A decision to do business with Saudi would be yes or no, not an erosion factor on the figure. Similarly, AEW’s new deal would be based off their own ratings and ad revenue projections, which will be higher than when they signed their previous deal. Ultimately either of these businesses have a lot of value in either scenario, with AEW’s value up from their last deal (but still much lower than WWE’s) and WWE’s being down from their last deal (but still much higher than AEW’s).

Hi, guys! New subscriber here, all the way from Romania, so I appologize if the cultural differences might make say studid things. But I have a question. How will AEW will be affected by this supposed sale to the saudis? If Fox and NBC lowball WWE on the next TV rights negotiaations, can TNT do the same with AEW? Or, this is a bit extreme, can Fox drop WWE entirley and enter the bid for AEW? I kept hearing at the beginnig of this so called war that a rising tide can lift all the boats, but if WWE is sinking (I don't think they will, but still...), will AEW suffer?

It would be known to shareholders that a sale is coming, not just to Twitter peeps

If this were true, this isn’t (with the greatest of respect) run of the mill regular wrestling news. Surely the biggest financial reporting institutions in the world would be ALL over it and we wouldn’t be getting vague news from a few twitter accounts?

I'll say this - I don't think it's have that big an impact on WWE in the medium to long term We've had a Premier League club (Newcastle) purchased by the Saudi fund. Despite the outrage that has been broadly accepted and some of their fans even will defend Saudi Arabia. It's basic sportwashing Possibly WWE lose Cena or Rock for one WM. Maybe Sami goes, maybe KO follows him People will still watch. Goto WM. Goto the Rumble etc The diehard WWE fans may even defend the Saudi money and purchase

A sale was one thing. Possibly even a good thing, though I think keeping it within the family is a better idea... But a sale to Saudi... That's a whole different can of worms. I can not think of any good to come of it. How do you not want to pass a legacy as big as the WWE to family? At Vince's age and his success level, he doesn't need the money, so... Why?
