Had a cosplay work weekend in - it was honestly kind of too hot and gross to do much of anything else.
Dress is mostly together and all the bottom edges are hemmed (top half of the over-the-shoulder sleeve is still raw because I'm NOT entirely sure how I'm going to attach the cape bit just yet). I got the satin for the main body of the dress on amazon - its NOT always the easiest way to buy fabric if you don't know what you're looking for since they dong offer anyway to get swatches to test, but if you're familiar with what kind of fabric you want and you can search pretty specifically by type of fabric (this is bridal satin, for example) and find some decent options are reasonable prices? I think 5 yards of this light sage green was about $35, which is a really decent price. Bridal satin at Joann's runs between, like $9-14/yard before sales for context.
I DID go to Joann's though, I needed matte bridal satin in silver to do some of the details on the dress and I found this gorgeous green/copper chiffon on sale! its not SUPER ACCURATE for the two arts we have of Arwen but I'm going to use it for the cape part of the dress because I honestly just like it more than the cooler green colors of the Mortal Queen art or the standard green of the Aragon and Arwen art. I'm late enough on making this that I feel like I can sort of make it however I want now. If you're looking for an Arwen cosplay that looks like it jumped right off the page google pictures of Nissa Cosplay's Arwen from M30 Barcelona, she did an incredible job. (Which isn't really a surprise, she's insanely talented).
Also started on the crown pieces: EVA foam covered in black worbla. I did all the detailing on the pieces and since worbla can be manipulated into different shapes when its heated I'm going to get all the pieces together and then shape the crown into an actual, round crown shape. Another reason I like the coppery/green chiffon is that it'll be something to tie the gold/copper color of the antique crown to the rest of the dress (which is otherwise silver? IDK that DID seem like a strange design choice to me.)
Still trying to get this done for the MN Ren Faire, but we'll see. I'm also now worried that I'm going to finish it and its going to be so nice that I don't WANT to wear it to the dusty, outdoor event right away before I get pictures? We'll see! Either way, crafting definitely has occured!
