It seems like they are trying to, if not make Eric sympathise with them (and by extension the reader), turn him into a neutral figure once he steps out of Ar'kendrithist. Of course he would still be opposed to the mad Shades, but the aim seems to allign him a bit with Melemizargo. Also, is it weird that I like him? I know he's the Big Bad Evil, but I still enjoy it whenever he appears. Finally, I ship it. Thank you, Fallopolis.
