Kelly Johnson talks to Korean War pilots; comes up with F-104. Leroy Grumman talks to WWII Navy pilots; comes up with F8F. Both aircraft seem to be seriously constrained. Am I right to think that the Navy held on to and kept building Corsairs because they were the best air air to gerund support work? (I did talk to an ex-Navy pilot that flew late in WWII that said the F8F was the "best aircraft I ever flew." He had flown Hellcats and Corsairs.)
