Vic's XTC Mix

Hello folks! I made a mix of one of my favorite bands. If you aren't familiar with them, they're sometimes referred to as the 80s Beatles, but they shouldn't be pigeonholed. They started out in the punk scene in the 70s, almost DEVO level stuff with melodic guitar parts, then progressed to more 60s-ish pop after they quit touring. They worked with Todd Rundgren to create the beautiful Skylarking record in 1986 and even went full psychedelia as their alter-ego The Dukes Of Stratosphere. Maybe this mix will inspire you to explore their catalog. Hope you enjoy it!

Dillon Myrick

Thanks for this Vic! definitely the best band to come out of my birthplace of Swindon lol, always loved skylarking but keen to check out more of them thanks to this

Fergus Campbell

YES! This is so cool! Thank you Vic. I did a deep dive into XTC about two years ago and they’ve been consistently my favorite band since. I can’t believe I went so long without hearing them. It makes me so very happy that people might be getting into them for the first time ❤️

Ellen Connaughton

very nice Vic! one my favorite bands too, still so under appreciated but I hope this mix will turn more people onto them. I really love their early, noisier stuff with Barry Andrews on keys but their mid-period stuff post-English Settlement after they stopped touring is great too! I love that Optimism’s Flames and Funk Pop a Roll is on this list, but the track Wake Up is still way up there for me - those panning guitars on the intro is what really got me hooked on them.

Nick Hill

Hell yeah! Thank you so much for this, Vic! Matt and Vic do not disappoint when it comes to mixes! This’ll be a hard act to follow for Tim and Doug!

Julian Dalrymple

I have one Andy Partridge story. In high school my media studies teacher got me into XTC. I loved them instantly. The teacher was also a songwriter and had recently recorded a CD of his tunes. They were good! Anyways, Apple Venus comes out and Andy comes to the states to do promotional events. I go to Tower Records in Boston with my teacher's CD to hand to his hero (He could not attend, I forget why). Anyway, I'm 18 and this CD clearly shows my 55 year old teacher on the front cover juxtaposed with a picture of him at Woodstock as a teenager, ok? When I get up to meet Andy I was super nervous. It seemed too long to explain who actually made the CD, so I handed it to him and said, "I made this would you check it out?" And Andy kept looking at the cover and then up at me and then finally asked a clarifying question, "You made this?" I was in too deep so I just doubled down. "Yes, hope you like it." He was so confused and knew I was lying but couldn't understand why. Then he signed Apple Venus and I left in shame.

Ryan Walsh

Knew I'd come across a Cardiacs fan around here somewhere!

Emmet O'Riabhaigh

Thanks Vic! Never got into this band but I’ll check this out. I’ve been on a Cardiacs and death metal kick lately
