Doctor here. So chaperone is in the room for 2 reasons. One as James said, to protect the patient, i.e make sure the doctor doing the rectal exam isn't doing anything sus. Other reason is to protect the doctor. If it was 1 v 1, the patient could come out the room and say the doctor fingered my vagina or put 3 fingers in and moaned in my ear. It would be their word vs yours and it would become a whole legal thing and potentially get you suspended. There've been multiple cases here in the UK where male doctors have taken female patients to a room and did for example a vagina exam when someone came complaining of a sore throat lmao. It's like bruh? what are you doing. This is why a chaperone is important. as much as I would love it, it's not for them to physically help Fuhad in a fight haha
