Who do you enjoy playing as most?

Choosing to go with the double protagonist gimmick in ORS was a bold and risky choice but I felt this is what I really wanted to do coming from GGGB's sole female main character.
Having both male and female POV for the leads has been very refreshing for me creatively and it allows me to create way more diverse and cool scenarios and character interactions. This, however, also provides two very different perspectives from which to experience the story, and while my goal is for you to be able to enjoy both equally, most people tend to favour one over the other, and some just plain dislike the switching of POV and hope they could play as just one character.
I already did a poll about this a while ago, but now that we're 7 chapters in, and a lot has happened, has your opinion changed? Let's see the result sin the poll below!

I would echo some of them in that I find Lena a more intriguing character, but think Ian has a better supporting cast. So while I enjoy seeing Lena's journey more, at the moment Ian's interactions feel more fun and well-rounded.

I tend towards the female MC for the corruption lines, but this time it is because I like Lena. Ian can pull ahead if he (even just once) bitch-slaps Perry for being such a beta.

I would be curious to hear the perspective of real-life lesbians if any are reading this thread to see if they have any thoughts on the subject.

2021-04-23 03:01:05 +0000 UTCFor me it depends on the playthrough. As I mentioned, whether or not this is a good (or canonical) way to play I'm doing two separate save files for this. In one, Ian is unfaithful to Lena, and Lena is faithful to Ian. In my other, Lena will be no-holds-barred fuck everything with legs, and Ian might pursue a romance with someone else. The writing is just great so far, however, so I enjoy both regardless. In my current playthrough, definitely Ian! But later that might change to Lena. Anyway... looking forward to the game! Keep it up!

It's hard to put into words exactly why, but I feel his side characters are slightly better developed. While Lena has roughly the same number of contacts, she is closer to far fewer of them, she is only close to Ivy, Louise and Holly (who ultimately is a shared friend of Ian). Ian on the other hand has far more friends or potential love interests. Outside of Ian, Lena only really has Robert (who can get written out fairly quickly unless you give in to him), Louise is obviously a potential love interest, but she is kind of clingy. I dare say there is the potential to get back with Axel (if you want to lose all self-respect), and maybe Stan (but I feel that Lena is way out of his league). Holly has some unrealised potential if Ian doesn't decide to snap her up, and I could see a corruption path with her being shared with Ian and/or Ivy, but obviously that lies in the future (if at all). There could be something with Seymour, but the power dynamic probably limits this option, as I very much doubt Seymour sees Lena as anything more than a fascinating plaything,

This is in any case, a real difference from many other games or interactive stories, it will give you new readers and patreons for sure.

But, at least to me, that feeling is countered by playing other routes where Lena and Ian go separate ways. I (only half kidding) sort of imagine it as almost a multiverse, lol, and so the different “quantum measurements” of the pairing and the whole game become more surprising to me. If playing only route probably that feeling of certainty in some interactions would be more prominent. All in all I’d say I’m quite happy with the dual MC approach, but again, that's just me.

Both are great characters and protagonists, but what makes me enjoy Ian slightly more is the cast that involves him. And even characters that are involved on both routes (Jeremy, Axel, Jess, Ivy, for example), so far, I enjoyed more Ian's interactions with them.

2021-04-22 13:57:25 +0000 UTCLast poll ended with Lena at 57% of the votes, Ian at 7% and both POVs at 36% while now Ian sits just below 10% and the other two options are basically tied at 45%. It’s difficult to extract conclusions from this kind of poll, but I would say that more than Lena losing support we’re seeing more people being sold on the dual MC gameplay. At least that’s my take on it.

2021-04-22 13:40:32 +0000 UTCI actually feel like a DM most of the time (unless it's a first person RPG), so what I'm trying to say here is that it feels like I'm being a DM to a character who I play myself. So the element of surprise is quite lacking to me.

Dancing with Emma or Cindy as Ian was hot... playing dare with ivy as lena was hot... So I have to say I love both storylines and I can't wait to see where it all is headed

2021-04-22 07:41:27 +0000 UTCWhen I first found out about GGGB and played it, it was a breath of fresh air because it was an adult game with a well-written woman as a protagonist. It's still quite uncommon, so I'm probably a bit biased towards the option for playing as Lena. That being said, both characters have interesting story arcs. But I do feel a bit hindered by the fact that there are two protagonists who feel 'destined' to be together. That I play as both can sometimes be a bit weird, too. Kinda like me having a tea party with myself: "Oh, Breadloaf, you are such a great person." "Why thank you Breadloaf, so are you!" "You are so funny Breadloaf, we should hang out!" "Of course Breadloaf, such a great idea!" It makes the interactions between them a bit less interesting since I hold complete power over the conversation. In a tabletop RPG you riff off with either another player or the DM, and in a cRPG your interactions are with the game itself (similar to a DM). The uncertainty in the response I might get isn't quite there with the dual protagonists, which makes their interactions a bit boring to me, sometimes.

I think both have interesting stories but when together I feel that there is a pull to get them together. If I'm playing Ian as a monogamous dude, and then Lena fucks another dude I feels like he is getting cheated on. I guess for me is that the game has two themes and they can distract from each other. If I want a cheated on vibe, which I do at times, I don't also want to get the cheater vibe from the other character. It muddles the feelings I get from the experience. Obviously I am still here supporting and like the project, but for the next game I hope this dual characters isn't continued.

If there was no way to avoid Ian and Lena being intimate with each other, it would make playing as Ian really uncomfortable for me.

His POV has a slight edge over Lena's and that is the colorful cast of his friends he can build relationship with, particularly his interactions with Perry, Cindy, Cherry and Emma (Holly is shared with Lena's POV). Lena's POV feels more like a claustraphobic survival game where she has to constantly compromize with her principles, and it's super realistic but pretty stressful at the same time. It's great that she at least has a friend like Ivy who is there to mix things up for her bestie. Wonder if she has any other friends from her old days that she had to leave behind when moving to a bigger city, or if those connections are forever lost. Looking forward to more interactions with Holly, their budding friendship is precious.

To me, there is a distinct difference between playing a guy pursuing his female sexual interests in a society that has always acknowledged his sexuality as legitimate and playing a woman exploring her sexuality in a society that still primarily views female sexuality as somewhat taboo. Lena's story explores this far more fully---even (for example) in the way that Louise calls Ivy a slut, and how Lena can react to that. Love it!!

And you can see how their social circle becomes more and more connected as time goes on. For example, it took me two playthroughs to realize that Robert was the belligerent jerk Ian encounters messing with Perry, so aspects like that make the dual protagonist angle really work. If I had to choose, I would say I enjoy playing as Lena more because it's fairly rare to have an adult VN game where the female protagonist is actually well-written and has some depth besides "innocent, naïve virgin corrupted into a sex fiend" angle. As always, eagerly anticipating the next chapter!

Lena's story, to me at least, is about a woman who is developing her sexuality and sexual character and seeing how far she is comfortable going with it and how much she's willing to breach taboos in the process. Ian's story is mostly about a guy and who he has sex with. What is he gonna do? Start a stalkfap? Use sex appeal to get his way? Become a naughty fashion model? Start prostituting? (I mean, yes, he could do all that, and i'm sure it could be done well and there'd be an audience for it, but i doubt it's this one or that it's in the cards 😀 ). For the most part his stories are pretty straight forward "attraction, engagement, sex, repeat." Which is not to say they are bad or trite, but rather anything beyond that is mostly brought to the table by his partner. E.g., Minerva's whole freaky-ass self. The sorts of situations Ian himself can get into are rather limited. Ian... is like a prop. lmao, a bit harsh, but the point is situations happen to him. Lena, on the other hand, drives her scenarios via her developing character. Personally i, by far, prefer watching the latter type of story unfold.

It is also very enjoyable that you can decide what happens with each character and who they end up with depending on the choices you make. Big thumbs up! an amazing game so far👍

With both characters, this game started amazing and has only gotten better. I have a slight preference for Lena as I'm a bit more invested in her character and the great range of storyline possibilities she offers. It also doesn't hurt that her model is absolutely gorgeous, and she really shines in the game's fantastic art. On the other hand, Ian's strength is his dense and varied relationships with the game's supporting cast, which always keeps his content engaging.

You dont have to unnaturally squeeze all the information into a single storyline. Im a guy, i do enjoy playing male characters more, but i do enjoy playing from both sides in your game. Story has been pretty solid so far, and while im only two months into pledging, i see myself staying on for quite some time
