February Update #1
Added 2020-02-24 23:42:12 +0000 UTCWell, a month or so has passed since the last status update and a month of progress has indeed been made! There isn't much to show yet, but things are still shaping up nicely!
Data Architecture
This stuff is so technical that it'd be hard to actually articulate, but we'll make the attempt! More-or-less, we've been working on the underlying framework that'll allow the game to talk to itself.
It makes sure that it knows what to do, and when to do it. And it makes sure that the Dragon Dares is able to find things it needs to find, and gets rid of things that need to be gotten rid of.
Not very exciting, but absolutely crucial. And after a few attempts, we seem to have found a workable approach for this particular module! This system is important, so there'll likely be a bunch of iteration on it before the full version of Dragon Dares enters development. But for now, it's more-or-less ready to go!
Core Mechanics
While most of the current graphics are placeholders, the code for most of the game actually works. It still needs to be hooked up so that it's playable from beginning to end, but Nude Leaf is actually shaping up very nicely from a code standpoint!
We are very close to being able to release a playable version of the game to patrons! That version will not have any graphics to speak of and will be very buggy, but it'll legitimately be PLAYABLE. One step closer to taking the world by storm with our adorable naked animal people~!
Animation
The other major focus has been on finding a good approach to animation. This has been surprisingly difficult since Dragon Dares' animations have to:
1. Flexible enough to have characters to complex actions like removing items of clothing.
2. Be cheap and easy to make.
3. Import smoothly to unity.
4. Have a reasonable filesize.
5. Be able to be layered and masked so characters can be seen at multiple stages of undress.
6. Look Good.
It's... a tall order to be sure. After going through several approaches, we're reasonably confident that we've hit on one that works! We'll post previews and a rundown of what we're doing once we get an animation or two done. Stay tuned, because we're sure your minds will be blown!
Writing
Our writer, Phoe, has been hard at work on the writing process. We're happy to say that the game's actual story and dialogue are at least 95% complete! The intro, all endings, and most of the card game dialogues are done.
There's a lot of funny, cute, and sexy dialogue in here, and it's been made accessible to $10 patrons. We're EXTREMELY excited to see this paired with actual sprites and animations!
Card Art
Our second artist, Choo, has been chipping away at the card art! Their work has been phenomenal so far, and they're over 40 design sketches in! About 2/3rds the way done, and we can attest that these dragons are VERY good. We're hoping to get the chance to show some off soon!
Overall, progress has not been bad for a month's worth of Dev time! Soon we should be able to show off more than a few blank screens with some text. Watch this space.
