2025-03-05 18:41:24 +0000 UTCi live in a state that recently legalized weed, but it was already decriminalized before that, so if a cop caught you with it, you could get a ticket similar to a speeding ticket, but you wouldn't get arrested or anything like that. When i was in college, there was this one spot near a river on the edge of town where young townies and college kids would all hang out to swim and smoke cigs/weed and skateboard and shit. It was in a clearing in a wooded area just outside city limits, across a bridge covered in graffiti. cops never came there and there would always be huge groups of young people gathered there. I hung out there a lot during all 5 (kms) years of college. less than a month before I graduated, I had to have surgery to remove my gallbladder. during recovery, I had a lot of dietary restrictions and I wasn't supposed to drink alcohol. a week before graduation, a bunch of my friends were partying to celebrate, and I was sober af and not having a good time. I had a friend who showed up late and noticed i wasn't having fun and asked if I wanted to go for a drive with him and smoke so that I wouldn't be totally sober (the girl whos house we were partying at was weird about smoking at her house. idk white college libs are weird.) i said sure and said he should just drive us out to that spot by the graffiti bridge where everyone smokes. LOW AND FUCKING BEHOLD a cop fucking shows up right after I start lighting up. you know what is crazy? me, the one who was actually smoking weed, the cop didn't really care about. he wrote me a ticket and confiscated by joint, and then basically ignored me. but my friend who was driving me, who wasn't doing anything wrong, he had a field day with. he made him put his hands on the car and even briefly handcuffed him while he searched the car (IT WAS MY CAR! NOT EVEN HIS CAR!) We are both white but he is more "ambiguous" looking than me, which is the only reason I can think that he caught more heat than me even though the only thing he did wrong was hang out next to me. it was annoying as fuck, but ultimately we were both fine. I'm actually glad in a way that it happened because I think that is one of the moments that really made me understand how I can utilize my privledge for the benefit of society. I did scream at the cop that night when he was harassing my friend; i never screamed at a cop before. even though I was the one who was in the wrong, I didn't really have any retaliation for screaming at him. if that hadn't happened i probably wouldn't have had the courage to scream at cops during the 2020 BLM protests and beyond... I think its easy to think of privledge as something to be ashamed of or embarassed about but really if you have privledge you should feel empowered to leverage that privledge for good. I think a lot of people in online discourse forget about that (thinking ab madeline pendleton telling kat blaque they "don't owe anyone androgyny" when kat was explaining that madeline just has privledge because they look like a white woman, even if they're not one. as a white woman-looking-ass enby, im in the same boat as madeline, bht kat blaque is 100000000% correct)

Then I still have daylight, energy, and business hours left for things outside of work. I work an office job now, and I use to work 8-5, but when daylight savings hit that first fall, I asked to switch to 7:30-4:30 just so I could see the sun for a second!!!

They will arrest people for the dumbest shit and completely inconvenience the jail. Especially young cops think they're hot shit and are bullies and especially city police officers. Sheriff's deputies seem to be more chill.
