2024-02-19 23:07:42 +0000 UTCI think the museum Ben is referring to is the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. The founder left it in her will that the original building wouldn't make any changes to the exhibits, so when paintings have been stolen the space they occupied is left empty. And it *does* have a very classy old European vibe!

2023-03-07 14:43:14 +0000 UTCWhere else to go for a discussion on Mamma Mia than a Blank Check Moonraker commentary.

2023-02-22 06:58:44 +0000 UTCIt’s fun but it really is just a remake of The Spy Who Loved Me but in space on account of Star Wars and Spy is just a remake of You Only Live Twice complete with Lewis Gilbert who directed all three movies haha.

2022-10-09 23:44:28 +0000 UTCTotally agree though I'd quibble that the Duquesne Incline is a funicular rather than a cable-car / gondola. Though it is cable-driven, it runs on tracks up the side of a cliff. There are several in PA... I remember the one in Johnstown we visited because it was famous for being very steep. We also rode the Kaprun funicular in Austria not so many years before it famously caught fire and killed over 100 people. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaprun_disaster)... which is scary. But I think they're so cool.

2022-10-08 03:15:42 +0000 UTCSeeing Michael Lonsdale really makes me want to rewatch Ronin, even though he's only in it briefly. Love it

2022-10-07 15:01:05 +0000 UTCYou missed the producers 'Fuck You' to Spielberg...the access code keypad for the germ laboratory in Venice uses the musical tones from 'Close Encounters'.

2022-10-05 17:45:43 +0000 UTCRecently revisited the OG Fletch episode and was pleasantly reminded that Harland Williams’ Rocketman was a staple of Griff’s childhood VHS collection. A bit surprised there wasn’t a shout-out here but an understandable omission

2022-10-04 18:32:16 +0000 UTCOoh, Picnic at Hanging Rock reference. Weir is my dream series. Podcaster and Commander. Also, Venice episode for the Comfort of Strangers in the Paul Schrader series. American Podcastalo.

2022-10-04 10:59:44 +0000 UTCGriffin’s false memory of Jaws spinning his girlfriend around by her pigtails sounds just like the infamous pigtails scene from Matilda, I have to wonder if he wasn’t just transplanting that into Moonraker.

2022-10-04 07:43:59 +0000 UTCAt some point I will be able to watch Skyfall with you providing commentary. So so good. Please, Spaghetti Monster make it happen

2022-10-04 01:54:08 +0000 UTCYou know you’re doing a good commentary when the bits are so good that you’re misunderstanding huge story beats. This has been my favorite Moore ep so far. Getting me through the work day.

2022-10-03 18:17:55 +0000 UTCRegarding the “vertical gondola” talk: Ben is referring to the Duquesne Incline! Well worth a ride if you ever visit Pittsburgh, the view at the top is stunning.

2022-10-03 16:19:20 +0000 UTCI wonder why they stopped doing that after Moonraker since the next four movies were based on Fleming short stories.

2022-10-03 02:22:10 +0000 UTCI love that Griffin in his mind somehow combined Jaws and Miss Trunchbull from Matilda

2022-10-02 16:43:18 +0000 UTCJohn Glen directed the next 5 Bond films, more than any other director.

2022-10-02 12:33:47 +0000 UTCI was so happy to hear Griffin and Ben react to the gondola scene organically.

2022-10-02 00:54:59 +0000 UTCThe lads randomly bursting into "Nobody Does It Better" needs to be part of the main feed. They could sing it after discussing the best bits of Kubrick films.

2022-10-01 20:22:06 +0000 UTCAh yeah I know about this from James Bonding hahaha, it’s the most Roger-Moore-sounding thing in the world

2022-10-01 20:21:47 +0000 UTCThis is the next to last Bond that has “Ian Fleming’s…” before the movie’s title. The last was CASINO ROYALE.

2022-10-01 19:51:35 +0000 UTCI'm cracking up hearing the friends talk about how old Roger Moore looks in Moonraker. We've still got 3 movies and 6 years to go!

2022-10-01 18:34:09 +0000 UTCIf you’re interested in Moore’s workout regimen for the role, you should read the excerpt in his “The 007 Diaries: Filming Live and Let Die,” wherein he discusses his “knees bend workout.” It’s quite amusing.

2022-10-01 17:36:56 +0000 UTCNot to MPAA-splain but Gremlins and Temple of Doom were what jump started the PG-13 because of mad parents who went to see those movies.

2022-10-01 15:50:06 +0000 UTCJust wanted to let you blankies know that in Brazil, where I live, Moonraker is called "007 vs the ROCKET OF DEATH"!

2022-10-01 11:06:54 +0000 UTCI remember as a kid loving 'Moonraker', then as an adult thinking it was pretty terrible and almost a complete retread of 'The spy who loved me' & now I'm kind of loving it again, even though it's still not great. It's like comfort food, I guess.
