Star Trek: The Motion Picture

No its not highly illogical! BC:SF has launched a new commentary series on the OG Star Trek films. In our first installment, Griffin, David, and Ben were beamed up (by Scotty) and watched 1979's Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Topics include: Leonard Nimoy's face, the franchise's history, Shatner tweets, Star Shrek and more.

The movie starts at...30:22

I feel like this doesn't sync up very well on paramunt plus, wonder why that is

Nope

"Star Trek really is just the origin of reacting to nothing" In the acting and in the fandom

Parahelix

My favorite thing about β€œThe God Thing” is that Roddenberry wrote a scene where Kirk has a fistfight with Jesus Christ himself. I really wish they’d done that, imagine how badly that would’ve gone down with the religious crowd lol

Jack Guidera

The freaking COVID talk seriously dates these episodes.

Adam

How did everyone miss Donkey Khan?

Calculon IV

Ben. Mushrooms and Star Trek? Yes! Total win. I will help you to experience this 😘

Jordan Gibson

Donkey is Harry Mudd

Patreon drops on the 1st, 11th and 21st of the month.

hope we get Picard and Kelvin films too sometime...I guess we have to wait for Griffin to start TNG first

Jon Ryves

Are these going to be dropping on sundays? What's the schedule here?

Jordan Parmenter

This is exquisite. Ya'll doing the films through TNG or just TOS?

Garak Tailor

This my first March as a Checkmate - how do you vote on these?

Doug F

For Wrath of Khan are you guys watching Directors cut and regular cut?

Paul Aftanas

I completely agree.

Kevin Love Hewitt

I'm so thankful to be getting these Patreon commentaries, but I must admit it stresses me out to have blind viewings like Griff is doing with "Star Trek". It's just the worst possible way to watch a movie for the first time and you miss so much. But I will stop my grumbling there as they're still delightful.

Conor Bresnan

There's a book that takes place after Star trek 7 Generations where the Borg reanimate Kirk's body to kill Picard. In the book it says VGer was the product of the Borg Just looked it up, it's called The Return and was written by Shatner

Darryl Bowen

Personally cannot WAIT to hear Ben experience Rura Penthe in VI...

ChewyWalrus

Ben’s refusal to engage in the film and just bulllying the nerds is the funniest thing

Leroy Beckett

ben hosley remains undefeated

Stephen Ayres

Star Shrek convo took me out. So excited for this series

PAIGE

The version on Amazon doesn't have the music before the opening credits, if you start it around 32:09 in the podcast it should sync up (when David mentions the Paramount logo).

Benjamin Owen

I imagine you must've felt silly when you waited 30 minutes to start the movie, and then realized you could've had that conversation during the Enterprise docking sequence.

Douglas Wykstra

Anyone know where we can watch this version? Watching on Amazon and it doesn't sync up.

Andrew

If anyone is interested, I can confirm that the original theatrical cut is available on blu-ray as part of the movie collection box set and the 50th anniversary series set (which is dope as hell!) https://twitter.com/sirniklong/status/1363529737851781121?s=20

Nikolas Long

Now that’s a long episode!

Jason Feffer

"But seriously, this franchise invented the wedgie."

Manish Agarwal

Are we even going to get anything now?

Reading "Movie starts at 30:22" makes me feel like Christmas came waaaay early
