Aliens
Added 2020-10-21 04:02:09 +0000 UTCEasily our favorite movie that got sold with a whiteboard and a dollar sign - we get to cover Alien$ again, bay-bee! Griffin, David, Ang, and one white-hot Benny revisit James Cameron's Vietnam allegory, how it's so drastically different from the thrilling original (and still works), and why that set the standard for new genre spins as the franchise and evolved. We're asking deep questions this week. Would aliens make good house flippers? Was there a slime unit on set and how do we get that job? And WHY DOES NO ONE LISTEN TO RIPLEY???
This is the THEATRICAL CUT.
The movie starts at...6:37

Sorry I disagree so hard with the Aliens 3 killing off Newt and Hicks immediately take, it sucks. Would much rather they went with the clone idea a movie early if they wanted such a hard refresh

2022-01-01 15:20:36 +0000 UTCThanks for covering some of my favorite movies (my son's name is Ridley...). My grandpa taped Aliens and Big Trouble in Little China off of Showtime in 1987, which is probably the videotape I watched the most in my life. RE: version, my first love is the Theatrical, partly because of nostalgia, but also because I think the beginning unfolds so nicely when you discover the colony as a ghost town.

2020-12-06 18:43:53 +0000 UTCCan I offer a defense of Alien v. Predator? I don't think it's a particularly artful or thought-provoking movie, but it's fun in its own right. I think it's more useful to think of it like a move in the same vein as the director's (Paul WS Anderson) other movies--e.g. Resident Evil--rather than a mainline Alien movie. You got Sanaa Lathan, two fun movie monsters, and kind of a John Carpenter's The Thing vibe. What's not to love? The second AVP is indefensibly awful though. You can skip that.

2020-10-24 00:39:04 +0000 UTCSpeaking of how fun the slide looks to do as an actor, X-Ray fed me this delightful IMDb fact during that scene: “When filming the scene with Newt in the duct, Carrie Henn kept deliberately blowing her scene so she could slide down the vent, which she later called a slide three stories tall. James Cameron finally dissuaded her by saying that if she completed the shot, she could play on it as much as she wanted. She did, and he kept his promise.”

2020-10-21 19:58:39 +0000 UTCAll the Aliens extended editions are on HBO Max! It’s very frustrating because it’s located below in ‘extras’ but they are there

2020-10-21 05:34:29 +0000 UTCThe Special Edition is on iTunes. It’s just in the special features. Just like Mad Max with the Blood and Chrome edition. You also auto have it if you have it on iTunes/Apple.
