Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol

Ready to listen to four friends gasp and yell as Tom Cruise hangs outside Burj Khalifa even though we've seen it already a dozen times??? This week watch Brad Bird turn around the Mission franchise while the BC crew reflects on Sand Gun's career, George Bush's paintings, and why the next villain should be a talking shark.

We initiate Ghost Protocol at... 16:05

I like the 2nd one and LOVE the 3rd one, but what exactly do you by souless in the case of those movies?

George E. Schneider

Haha Source code is exactly the kind of movie that won't hold up to the idea I had of it as a teen. It's a cool concept, I did think it was weird Griffin thinks so little of Duncan Jones' Moon, which is actually a good film and not just a gimmick (like Source Code).

So much talking over each other, these zoom commentaries are a little rough for free flowing commentary conversation tbh. Luckily what's being said/ the jokes are worth the trouble. I'm so glad they're in the same room for the more recent commentaries, the chemistry is so much better and it's a much easier listen. This movie rips, Sims' love for it really made me re-evaluate it as the 2nd or 3rd best MI. I love how much "goes wrong", both in agents failing and the technology failing. The Brad Bird touch, as Griffin put it. It really adds so much charm to a franchise that had a pretty soulless 2nd and 3rd entry.

I just checked my IMDb and l gave Source code 9/10 in 2011 😂 l haven’t seen it since either. Definitely need to rewatch it.

.nice!

Josh Harvey

Came back here just to say that Kristen Stewart is just their sister in Zathura?? She doesn't marry Josh Hutcherson because he's her BROTHER.

Bryce Hendrickson

Fun fact: the shooting location for the courtyard of the Kremlin was actually Prague. The boys were wondering if they actually got access. I’m assuming they didn’t. But imagine my surprised when I walked on the set of the gorgeous film on my last vacation.

Oli Pate

Had to re-sync the commentary multiple times because I love skipping back to relisten to the groans after Griff's jokes (Finnish and the no-fart white pants, specifically). Love these four people so much. Dream team.

"Behind Enemy Lines is better than Enemy at the Gates" was the consensus opinion that made me react in the way I would if David were to ever reveal that he spent significant time in a country besides the United States.

Douglas Wykstra

The extended George W. Bush discussion reminded me of the time a friend of mine got an award at the Intel Science Fair in the mid-2000s and went to DC to accept the award from Bush. He has always been politically liberal and hated Bush at the time, and said that the award ceremony was one of the most surreal experiences in his life because "here's a guy I know I dislike on a political, intellectual, and human level, and when he came up to me and shook my hand, he just seemed like the most charming guy in the world. I probably talked to him for 15 seconds, and when it was over I caught myself thinking, 'what a nice guy!'" So yeah, I think any politician who manages to get to the national level, even the ones who seem clearly incompetent and overmatched by the responsibilities of their job and who don't give very good speeches, all have a baseline level of personal charisma that, when combined with the trappings of office, basically works as a low-level superpower.

Well I guess I’m rewatching Spectre tonight in preparation for penning my lengthy rebuttal to these terrible, horrible, no good, VERY BAD “LĂ©a Seydoux in Spectre” takes! Podcast crimes have been committed!

Adam Angyalosi

Shoutout to Ang for the “2morrowland” joke, which I’m confident Griffin would’ve awarded comedy points for, had he heard it

Jenny Potter

Listening from Warsaw. David is right, the Polish president is a terrible person. It looks like they’re not blowing up the bridge, it has just been registered as a monument... (Also, Ang rules)

Filip Boratyn

Thanks for the context, Brian. Your opinion still sucks. Have a nice day!

Robert Gough

And David is so loud and clear, it honestly makes this episode pretty difficult to listen to :-\

I just finished an about 16 hour shift, working the pediatric wing of my employment. Just read all comments, and someone wants to add to my email to be petty? I have real emergencies that I need to take care of. Btw someone from Wales (but David how would you know?) made a great and thoughtful comment, 0 likes, I make a comment that something's not for me, you all lose your minds. I have an opinion, just like all of you.

Brian Alford

“Cafe shoes” is an iconic Blank Check phrase hahaha

Rad Rodge

Great idea! Ang, is there any charity/cause we can donate to in lieu of sending you a smoothie or coffee?

Ross Kroeber

Is there a way to up my Patreon level to give more money directly to Ang every time some toxic twerp mouths off about her? She should get a smoothie or an ice coffee whenever she has to encounter one one of these.

Aurora

love ang, ang is the best.

jackson kim murphy

I would add that nobody has as good a filmography as Tom Cruise. 5, 6 failures out of 40,50? Nobody has that. He was 26 in Rain Man, the most successful film of 1988. Cruise is no Paul Newman. But he has made a fuckton of better films. And Knight And Day is alright.

Paul Matthews

Hey guys. Writing here from Wales (a part of England I guess). Long time listener. I sometimes go off ya cos in my mind you're privileged New Yorkers, but that's just petty envy and pretty stupid. I absolutely love this series and this podcast has given me a hell of a lot of pleasure and often real comfort in dark times. Excellent work. I do believe I am as good as Griffin at the box office game. My ability at that meant math, etc lost out. I regret nothing!! Love the podcast.

Paul Matthews

The way Ben says "sub-burb"

Sam Greenspan

Thanks for your criticism on my criticism. It's called AN OPINION! I love this podcast, I don't like Angela.

Brian Alford

“please get rid of angela” is valid criticism? you don’t know what criticism is and also have bad opinions

Gabriel Cywinski

Ben would love Ben Foster in the 3:10 to Yuma remake.

Ryan Dodge

I do "realise" (?) that the people making this might see it, it's called criticism. I pay my money, just like all of you. I'm not trolling, I'm just stating my opinion. Hope everyone has a great day!

Brian Alford

Upload issues. Should be updated with new file now.

Blank Check with Griffin & David

Firm Disagree. Ang is awesome.

Michael David

RE: Ben Foster. At a QandA for Hell or High Water, Ben Foster immediately set his microphone on the ground and didn't speak. Eventually, the moderator asked him a direct question and Chris Pine picked up the mic and forced it into his hands. He gave a one word answer and put it pack down

Matt Skuta

Please please please get rid of Angela. Adds nothing (the force awakens is unlistenable) she's no Ben!!

Brian Alford

GRIF SO quiet!

Aaron Harvey

Awesome! But what's up with the mix on this? Uptown is loud and Downtown is quiet.

Jordan B. Anderson

Oh nice! I recently listened to the old Ghost Protocol episode thinking you weren't going to do it again. Probably my favorite Mission Impossible.

Ryan Dodge

Thursday is a good day.

Joe Allen D.

Holy crap, a day early?!
