National Sports Car Race Zolder 1966 - Ford GT40 #101

For the WSC60s Ford GT40 Mk1.

GT40 P/1041 started out its life as a special order on behalf of Jean Blaton, better known as "Jean Beurlys". Jean was among the older racing drivers still racing at top level in international sports and touring car racing, being born in 1927. He raced primarily for Ferrari since the late 50's, mostly for the Belgian semi works team Ecurie Francorchamps. He finished 3rd overall in the 1962 Le Mans 24 and 2nd the year after, winning their class. Racing together with Léon "Elde" Dernier in 1966, sharing a 365 P2, the pair would be a major force in endurance racing that season despite not finishing in most races.

Jean Blaton also went to taste life on the other side, buying GT40 P/1041 that year, outfitted with the special order wire wheels. These quickly made way for more conventional racing rims however. At Zolder in September 1966, he faced off against his teammate "Elde" who was driving the 365 P2. In this case, the sheer power of the 4.7L V8 secured the win for Blaton, with "Elde" finishing 2nd.
