Japan Grand Prix 1969 - Isuzu R6 #28

For my Isuzu R6, available on RD.

The biggest surprise of the 1969 Japanese Grand Prix was the sudden emergence of Isuzu with two different group 6 and group 7 prototypes in the main race. This had never happened before with Isuzu, who only stuck with racing touring cars until the Bellett GTX took victory at Suzuka a few months prior.

The Isuzu R6 was mostly comprised of Bellett and 117 components, wrapped in an elegantly styled body. Despite its quick looks, the R6 failed to make much of an impact on the race, severely outclassed by a privately entered Lotus 47GT. Car #28, driven by Tachio Yonemura and Jun'ichiro Kasuya would retire from the race with engine issues, even after an emergency engine swap after a practice mishap.
