I've been asked a few times why Tsubaki appears to be Japanese when Hand Jumper is nominally set in Korea. Aberrancy is a shameful infliction in the world of HJ, and family members of aberrants are often seen as guilty by association. It is not an uncommon practice for the elites of society- those whose careers ride or die with their reputation- to send their children to study overseas, if those children are at risk of developing aberrancy. If the children become of age without developing aberrancy, they are called back and officially integrated into the family. If not...
