"...Legends say that long ago, a koi fish was swimming upstream and reached a mighty waterfall. Instead of turning back like many of its brethren, the koi attempted to jump up the waterfall, time and time again it failed, but it persisted in its attempts. After one hundred years of trying to make its “climb,” the koi finally succeeded, leaping to the top of the falls. As it did so, an outsider of great power witnessed its feat of perseverance and strength, and transformed it into the first koi dragon as a reward for its dedication...
...Koi dragons are known both for their kindness and their wisdom, they are sought out by those who are troubled to offer guidance or encouragement to persevere through hardship, or pursue dreams that will likely require great endurance. Some seek a koi dragon’s lair simply for the beauty and calm such a place offers, and any community is lucky to host a koi dragon. Indeed, some communities build their entire cities around the ponds of koi dragons, the magical luck and general goodwill of the dragon ensuring they are prosperous (so long as they do not anger the dragon by polluting or destroying the beauty of its home)...."
What abilities and features come to mind when you picture this creature?

Based on the flavor text I would expect it to lean more into being defensive/supportive than a direct combatant. More permanent regional effects/teraforming abilities and lair actions would make sense for crafting the perfect home and being more powerful in its space. I think regenerative and healing abilities would line up with its tale of perseverance. An aura that protects allies from psychic damage and effects would line up with its calming nature. As for being something the party might fight, I would envision it's true threat being the way it enhances its allies/minions.
