December Monster Poll

Hey Critical Crew!

We need your help! For December's "Terrors of the Tundra" release, we have a whole slew of monster ideas but need YOU to help us pick which you want to see!

Below are the moodboards for ten potential monsters and we need to know which FIVE you want to see for December. So pick your five favorites from below!

Ijiraq

You see something out of the corner of your eye, turning back, nothing is there… but you could have sworn you saw some sort of humanoid creature with massive antlers growing from its head… and red eyes that bored into your soul.

• A shapeshifting creature.
• Fond of stealing and abandoning children in the cold to die from exposure.
• The Ijiraq has red eyes, visibile regardless of the form the creature has taken.
• Sometimes helpful, sometimes fataly deceptive,
• Capable of creeping just out of eye view, appearing for a moment before vanishing.
• Formed from the souls and bodies of those trapped between two planes.
• The region surrounding their lairs is enchanted to cause any who walk their to become lost in the cold.

Qallupilluit

You spy a mother rushing along the ice, her child screaming in a amautik slung over her back. The mother rushes to the water, turning back for a moment before diving in with the child. To your horror, the face presented is piscine and slimy, disgusing in the extreme… that was most certainly not the child’s mother.

• An aquatic creature that kidnaps and drowns children.
• Capable of grabbing and restraining small creatures within their amautiks.
• Sneaky ambushers, that leap from the water to attack their foes.

Tupilaq

A horrible creature composed of the bone and flesh of dozens of creatures falls before you, your blade cleaving its head clean from its body. To your horror, the creature stands once more, but moves away from you, rushing in a straight line for some unknown destination…. It is clear when it reaches wherever it is going, someone is going to die…

• A constructed undead formed from the body parts of many animals and brought to life with a profane ritual.
• Seeks a singular target specified by its creator, if defeated, the tupilaq is revived, and returns to kill its creator.
• Once a tupilaq has been defeated and set upon its creator, the creator can only defeat the tupilaq if they confess its horrid creation in public.

Spirit Mask Golem

A lumbering creature constructed of ice, snow, and furs lumbers along, blowing snow clinging to its form. The creature sports an emotionless mask, which cocks to the side as it surveys you curiously.

• A golem crafted from ice but possessing a spirit trapped in a mask.
• The creature’s mask is its weak spot, and the golem can be defeated by removing the mask.
• Has cold and ethereal-related attacks.

Gnoph-keh

A roar echoes across the snowy wastes, looking in its direction, you see a massive bear-like creature rushing towards you, breathing forth a swirling vortex of ice and snow. Your blood runs cold as the creature approaches, and the freezing cold somehow becomes even colder.

• Six-limbed bear-like creature with a singular facial horn.
• Able to summon blizzards and drop temperatures to supernatural cold.
• Cannibalistic and extremely predatory and war-like. Can regain hit points by eating the dead.

Sermilik

The spiky ice shifts before you, and you realize this is not ice at all, but the coat of a massive lumbering bear!

• A massive bear covered in icy spines.
• Capable of disguising itself as ice formations and drowning sailors, presenting its frozen paws as small ice floats.

Akhlu

A creature emerges from the water in a great wave of water and flying ice, it lets out a combination of a howl and a clicking sound, one that causes your blood to run cold.

• A shapeshifter that takes the form of an orca, wolf, or a hybridization of both.
• Vicious, territorial, and dangerous.
• Attacks creatures near the edge of water, has a furious appetite.

Amikuk

Something is moving beneath the snow, almost “swimming” beneath it around you. The creature surfaces for a moment, and you can see a sickly, slimy creature clambering beneath the snow on spindly, elongated limbs.

• A strange, amphibious creature with slimy skin.
• Able to burrow and swim, gliding through earth and snow as easily as water.
• Can transform the earth creatures are standing on into a form of quicksand.
• Clever shapeshifter.
• Able to take on ethereal form and leap through other creatures, weakening them.
• If encountered in human form and not spoken to and ignored, the creature offers gifts of increasing value.
• When hit with a ranged attack, bursts into multiple Amikuk.

Az-I-Wu-Gum-Ki-Mukh-'Ti

A crash comes from behind you, turning you see a horrible creature that resembles a lumbering walrus mixed with a rabid dog, the creature’s red eyes glare into yours as it slams over the ice and snow, filled with murderous rage.

• A half walrus half-dog creature.
• The creature’s hide can only be pierced by a spear or similar improvised weapon.
• Its tail is powerful enough to crush a Humanoid or sink a ship in a single blow.
• Incredibly aggressive and territorial.

Ugjuknarpak

You are sailing along the frozen wastes, nothing in sight for miles, when suddenly a tail whips from the water, flipping your boat over and plunging you into the frigid water! You are the next victim of a dreaded Ugjuknarpak.

• A massive, aquatic, predatory rodent.
• Lives beneath the ice, overturns boats and rafts.
• Incredibly tough skin that is difficult to penetrate.
• Prehensile tail that can grapple foes, dragging them beneath the ice to drown.
