Badlands dragons are draconian creatures native to deserts and other hot environs. These spiny dragons ferociously defend territories they have claimed, ensuring that the water and prey within these regions belong solely to them. Woe be it to any adventurer who slays a desert hare for dinner in the realm of a badlands dragon, for they might soon pay for their insolence by being added to the dragon’s next meal.

I remember an ancient Dragon magazine article with a dragon that could breath sand particles --either as an obscuring cloud, or as a stream of accelerated particles to injure in a short cone. I think such a dragon could breathe to either effect as it chooses
