Jaws (1975) - Uncut Reaction

no freakinn way...

I saw Jaws when my family was vacationing in California the summer it was released. A couple days later my sister and I were at the beach when a man was attacked by a 15ft Great White Shark. He needed over 400 stitches to close the wounds in his legs but the shark swam away after that one bite

I personally think it was Quint's obsession with killing the shark that got himself killed. Dive too far into obsession and you start making rash decisions...and in a movie like Jaws, that means you're shark food - K

This shark was like Quint's own Moby Dick. His was a very personal vendetta... which becomes clearer with his story of being one of the 316 survivors of the USS Indianapolis. (Which is all based on what actually happened.) But he let it escalate into obsession... so he purposely destroys the radio and burns out the engine. Hooper and Brody's lives don't really matter to him as much as getting the shark. So I think it made sense that he met his maker via the shark. And it allowed Roy Scheider as Brody to step up and put aside his fear. Richard Dreyfuss as Matt Hooper is my favorite character here though. All day, every day. Quint is a colorful character... and his monologue about the war is enthralling. But for me... Matt does his level best all-around, adapts well, and can balance science with being hands on... and puts survival first. All 3 are such unique personalities thrown together... and it really works.
