Budget: $6m - $10m

Execs: Studio Executive: Eric Paquette

Writer (Current): Colin Minihan

Producer: Mike Medavoy, Benjamin Anderson

Director: Colin Minihan

Logline: A college student races to learn the truth about various ‘internet urban legends’ when her friends are mysteriously murdered in a
series of scenarios designed to mimic the online phenomena.

Roles:

[HAILEY]
Lead Female (20)
“Short hair, rocking androgynous hipster vibes…a child of the internet. She’s most comfortable communicating with others when it’s from the safety of behind her screen.” A college student who is somewhat shy and awkward, but who has had a
very active and snarky internet presence for some time. When her friends start turning up dead, she traces the killings to a message board of internet urban legends, and she and her friend RICKY soon realize that they seem to be at the center of the killer’s strange conspiracy. She briefly suspects several of her friends of the killings, but grows agitated when Ricky suggests her mysterious net-girlfriend MICHELLE might connect. However, it turns out Ricky was right – Michelle doesn’t even exist, but is a fake person that SARA invented in
order to lure Hailey into a trap as revenge for an old prank. Hailey kills Sara, but Sara is effectively able to frame Hailey for the whole killing spree.
Set Sydney Chandler

[RICKY]
Supporting Male (20)
“Carries a manic intensity and is sharp as a tack. He prefers to stay off the grid, but if he has to go online, he’s smart enough to stay untraceable… innocent face, thick frames.” One of Hailey’s best friends, he’s skeptical of the internet and its patterns of (mis)information, but also fascinated by it. He also has something of a crush on Hailey, though he plays it down. He helps her try to get to the bottom of the murders, though when he (correctly) surmises it’s connected to Michelle, she lashesout at him. He’s killed trying to stop her from meeting Michelle
in person.

[SARA]
Supporting Female (20)
“The type of girl that can party hard and still ace every exam, and to make matters worse, she is stunning with piercing blue eyes.” A classmate who Hailey approaches at a party, they become friends with the undercurrent of something more,
though Hailey rebuffs Sara when Sara kisses her. Sara is troubled and admits that her mom committed suicide a few years prior. Sara appears to die, but in fact turns out to be the killer – and is planning to pin everything on Hailey because she
blames Hailey’s internet activities for her mother’s death.
Set Katherine McNamara

[BETH]
Supporting Female (20)
“A high-maintenance socialite.” Hailey’s roommate, who is using the murders to promote her personal social media and vlog. Hailey finds this increasingly distasteful, as their friends are dying, and tension grows between the two. Her “insider” information on the killings and cold attitude briefly cause her to
become a primary suspect. She’s arrested but proven innocent.

[DET. HEATHER DONALDSON]
Supporting Female (45 - 49)
“She’s hard edged and carries the weight of experience.” A seasoned cop who is working with her partner MATTHEWS to try to apprehend the killer. The two chase many false leads, as the
killer is doing a great deal to scramble their trail. Ultimately, she is murdered in her home.

[DET. MATTHEWS]
Supporting Male (30 - 34)
Donaldson’s partner, who is working with her to try to apprehend the killer. The two chase many false leads, as the killer is doing a great deal to scramble their trail.

[JASON]
Supporting Male (20)
“His classic good looking, all American.” Ricky’s best friend, who is also close with Hailey. He and Beth used to date, and they still have a flirtatious antagonism between them. He’s freaked by
the murders and by Ricky’s obsession with them, and often avoids conversations about them. Ricky ultimately finds him dead in their room.

[PROFESSOR]
Supporting Male (40)
Hailey’s media studies Professor, who teaches a class on the dissemination of false information on the internet. He’s stern and rather humorless. He is briefly suspected of being the killer, but is innocent – though he does have an internet dating profile that he uses to try to pick up students. Later killed.

Sounds like a better twist then the original.
