A big picture that got a little lagged down as I worked on it during streaming ^~^ I naturally slow down a lot when I'm streaming and working on art so this took about 10 hours to stream to completion.
Sketch:
Quickly skeched out a vanashing point of which to lay clouds upon for a perspective of a vast sky above the future trees. Cleaned up the body sketch to get a better idea of anatomy and position.
Lineart:
Finalized the body with lineart as well as the lotus flower as it was the main focal point of this piece. I also outlined the bank of the pond to get an idea of how it would lay.
Flat colour:
Laid down the flat colour for the character and lotus. For his stripes, I focused on really getting them to "wrap" around the character, already adding a dimension to the flat lineart.
Final product:
I used around 80+ layers (merging them down naturally as completion was reached in order to keep the file size small or my Sai would crash) . Originally I used a new cloud brush I had received in Photoshop however I did not feel like it fit correctly so I made my own clouds, bushes, trees and grass and water to fit into the background with my own brushes in Sai that I normally use for painting. Finally, I transfered the completed project into Photoshop for some photo editing such as adding a slight blur in select areas as well as cleaning up my colours and editing levels and curves.
I learned a lot about some new texture (such as the top of trees because oml I had no idea what I was doing or how I was going to execute that at first) as well as getting more comfortable in editing my own photo's curves in photoshop for further effects to really bring together a finished product.
We have two more to do at the moment: 1- A Fox-Dragon hybrid girl in the stars of space // 2: A Tiger-Fox sitting inside a window looking up into the sky. So the next two pieces are going to be more cloud-based to really bring this together and in such I might do them in photoshop entirely but we'll see.
Kindest regards,
Momo
