Hello everyone,
I saw this DOA article the other day & thought it would be really interesting to see if I could breakdown Optical’s bass techniques. 🧑🔬

Ed Rush & Optical - The Medicine - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYQjEgOoaVg
① Source Bass Sound - Tabla, 808 Distorted, Novation Bass Station, Detuned Synths (Square & Saw), Filtered Samples (any sample that has a good bass waveform)
② Resample Bass Patch - Assign Macros to: Low-Pass Filters, Resonance, Driving Sweeping EQ & Pitch Wheel Modulation.
③ EQ Bandpass Sweeping Technique - All EQ’s on widest and max gain (Analog style EQ). Then sweep the high mid eq with a narrow band.
④ Add to Sampler - Cut up the best parts and add them all to a new sampler instrument with legato Glides turned on (small ms glide times are better according to Optical).
⑤ Glide Notes - Play in the new idea testing out overlapping notes for cool glides between them.
⭐️ Resampling - The key to this technique is to never be afraid to resample and filter again. Record a long performance, chop out the best bits & off you go again.
Cheers everyone,
Big ups! ✌️
